What a weekend! Madison Regatta never disappoints.
From the parade downtown with thousands of fans to racing on one of the most iconic courses in our sport, it's a weekend we've been looking forward to since last year. To top it all off, my fiancé surprised me by flying in for the weekend, and getting to share our country's largest race with him made it even more special. The announcers definitely have the "Ewancio" pronunciation down pat...we might have to start practicing "Terlizzi" for next season!
Despite some rough water conditions (I'm looking at you, turn 1), we were able to squeeze in all four heats for a full weekend of racing. Dad and I ended up with three second-place finishes and a first, earning us the overall win for the weekend.
Racing doesn't get much closer than this. Last season, the Hydroplane Racing League championship came down to a single point in the final heat. This weekend, Dad and I ended up tied on points with Mom and Uncle Jimmie, with the overall weekend win being decided by just 0.29 seconds. I think it's safe to say Stewart Racing is no stranger to close competition!
Thank you to all of the volunteers, officials, rescue crews, and everyone behind the scenes who work so hard to make the Madison Regatta what it is. We also want to give a huge thank you to Sedam Contracting for sponsoring the skiff class this weekend! Your support is greatly appreciated.
Madison is always one of the highlights of our season, and we're leaving with great memories and maybe a little bit of momentum. We'll see everyone in Valleyfield next weekend!
