Member spotlight for this month!!!
Jayna Scadden
I will be 30 in October, and I grew up in Farmington, Ut. I am engaged to the cowboy of my dreams, Ryan Brooks. We just moved from Ryan’s hometown of Escalante, Ut to Centerfield to be closer to Ryan’s darling daughter Bexlie, who is 7.
Our little family consists of the three of us humans, three doggos, nine horses, and two cats. Ryan team ropes, both ends, and I’m going to try to get him to join club with me next year. Bexlie loves to ride her pony, which is often a battle to see who’s more stubborn, the pony or her. She is excited to join 4H next year.
I started riding when I was 12. I cleaned stalls in order to ride the barn owners black hearted pony. From there I worked my way up to exercising horses and teaching lessons. I completed with the Twin Stars Riding Club from ages 15-21, with my highest achievement being winning the state pairs pleasure title along side Barbara Frodsham. I took a break from club to focus on rodeo queening and started working as an assistant trainer for (Jeff) Wadman Performance Horses in Morgan, Utah during the week, and Bar T Rodeo Company during the weekend. My crowing achievements were winning the 2019 Wilderness Circuit Queen and the horsemanship award at the 2018 Miss Rodeo Utah contest.
After I finished queening I moved to Escalante where I ran the horsemanship program at a residential treatment center for troubled youth for a few years. I love teaching riding lessons and working with problem horses. I’m an amateur header and breakaway roper, and I love taking lessons to better myself as a rider. My favorite Riding Club events back in the day were pony express and trailer race.
My favorite horses of all time: my heart horse was a buckskin mare named Peppy. She was the horse that gave me my foundation and carried me through my teenage years. My other favorite is Cinder, my big yellow mare that you will all get to know. She was given to me because she’s a little crazy, and a lot quirky. She’s my main ride and I’m excited to give her lots to think about competing in club next year! 🙂
