The Village of DeForest is collecting community input on whether to add mountain bike trails right here in town — and this is our chance to make it happen! 🙌

Here’s what you need to know:
🌲 You don’t have to live in DeForest to complete the survey — EVERY response counts.
🌲 The more people who show support, the better chance we have at finally getting local trails.
🌲 It only takes a few minutes to fill out.

As we wind down our season, here are two important things we need your help with ⬇️

1️⃣ Team Dinner & Year-End Celebration 🎉

📅 Saturday, October 18
📍 Trek – Team Camping Area
🕒 3:00 PM – Team Photos (wear your jersey or team T-shirt!)
🕞 3:30 PM – Speeches & team updates
🍽️ Dinner to follow (~4:00 PM)

👉 All immediate family members of riders are invited, even if your rider isn’t racing at Trek! Please RSVP by Friday at midnight so we can get accurate dinner numbers.

The Village of DeForest wants community feedback about building mountain bike trails right here in town! This is our chance to show strong support.

🚵‍♂️ Englewood Weekend Recap + Important Updates! 🚵‍♀️

What a weekend at Englewood! 🌞 The weather was perfect, we had several first-time racers hit the course, and our Saturday team dinner was a blast. Huge thanks to our amazing coaches, riders, and families who made it such a great experience! 🙌

Here’s what’s coming up for DeFo MTB:

🔦 Practices this week
• Monday → DeForest (normal practice spot)
• Wednesday → Sheehan Park, Sun Prairie
👉 Riders: please bring a bike light or headlamp to every practice for the rest of the season. We’ll be finishing rides at dusk (or in the dark).

📅 Upcoming Deadlines
• Hodag Hustle (Rhinelander): Rider registration closes Tuesday, Sept 30 at midnight. Details & links on our website.
• Red Barn State Championships (Trek):
• Camping with the team: Register by Wednesday, Oct 8.
• Rider registration: Closes Tuesday, Oct 14.

🙌 We Need Coaches!
Shoutout to Coach Dwight + Coach Jason for jumping in as new Level 1 coaches this week! Looking ahead to next season, we’ll need more parent volunteers. You don’t have to be a skilled mountain biker to help—just a willingness to learn and support the team.

🚴‍♂️ Meet Coach Nate 🚴‍♂️

Nate first got into mountain biking in his 20s, but it wasn’t until his kids joined NICA about 8 years ago that he jumped back in — wanting to ride with them and get some exercise. That decision turned into something bigger, and this season marks his 6th year coaching with DeFo MTB!

👉 What Nate loves most: spending time with the kids and coaches doing something he truly enjoys. This team has become like a second family to him.

One of his favorite parts of coaching is watching riders grow throughout the year — especially those who might not get the same opportunities in other sports. Seeing them gain confidence, compete, and build self-esteem is what it’s all about. 💪

🚨 Camping Registration Deadline – Tonight! 🚨

Hey DeFo MTB Family!
If you’re planning to camp with the team at Cable Conquest (Labor Day Weekend in Cable, WI) you MUST register and pay for your camping by midnight tonight.

👉 Scroll to the Cable Conquest (YELLOW) section
👉 Click the Camping Registration Link
👉 Select your equipment → Add to Cart → View Cart → Checkout & pay

✅ You can also register ahead for camping at other races (except Minooka).
⚠️ Minooka camping is first-come, first-served through Waukesha Parks — we highly recommend registering ASAP.

Festival Registration Reminder:
• Each rider must also be registered for the Festival Weekend in PitZone.
• Registration closes at 11:59pm the Tuesday before the Festival.
• For Cable, that means Tuesday, August 26.
• If you purchased a season pass, you’re already covered.

Our first Festival Weekend is just 2 weeks away! 🎉 Here’s what you need to know to get ready:

✨ Registration
• Every rider must be registered for the Festival in the NICA PitZone.
• If you have a season pass, you’re good! ✅
• If not, make sure you register before Tuesday, August 26 at 11:59 PM.

✨ Camping
• Camping is available at all Festival Weekends.
• Register through our Festival Weekends tab on the website.
• Deadline for Cable Conquest camping is Wednesday, August 20 — don’t miss it! ⛺️

💡 Pro Tip: If you know which Festivals you’re attending, register for camping now so you’re all set.

🚵‍♂️ Limbo… but make it MTB style! 🚵‍♀️
The crew brought some serious skills (and flexibility!) to practice last night with a little mountain bike limbo.

From barely ducking under to full send silliness, it was all smiles, laughs, and friendly competition.

Who knew bending low could be this fun on two wheels? 🙌

Festival race weekends are just around the corner—stay tuned for all the details so you don’t miss a single pedal stroke! 🚴‍♀️🏁

📍 Location: Sheehan Park, Sun Prairie
🕠 Time: 5:30–7:00 PM

Heads up — the Sweet Corn Festival & Parade will be happening, which will make driving through town tricky.
✅ Best Route:
Take the interstate to 151 → exit at Nelson Road (East) → Bailey Road → left on Bird Street → Sheehan Park.

📍 Parking: By the Little League fields (see map).
We’ll meet in the grass area northwest of the lot — follow the paved bike path from parking.

⚠️ Reminder: Riders should stay out of the skatepark.

Meet Coach Larry!

Hi, I’m Larry — one of your DeForest MTB coaches. My wife, Alisha, is also a coach on the team, and our two kids ride as well. Louie is 15 and heading into his sophomore year, and Annie is 13, starting 8th grade.

I’ve been mountain biking most of my life, but I got more involved in 2022 when Louie joined the team and I stepped into a coaching role. Since then, biking has become a big part of our family — most of our road trips and adventures now revolve around the trails!

When I’m not on a bike, I love snowboarding, road tripping, and pretty much any adventure that includes Alisha, Louie, and Annie. We always find a way to have fun together.

Fun fact: I’m surprisingly good at parallel parking — it’s my hidden talent. ✌️
