Our final Alumni Spotlight for this summer is our current volunteer assistant coach, Sabrina, who is finishing her doctorate degree.

Hometown: Berlin, Germany

Major at ERAU: Human Factors and Behavioral Neurobiology (PhD)

Best Personal Accomplishment: Completing my doctorate at Embry-Riddle and leading my own physiological research lab of over 20 students, while continuing to stay involved as a volunteer assistant coach and remaining part of this great team’s journey.

Favorite Memory while at ERAU: A truly special matchday that will stay with me for the rest of my life: winning the doubles point with my partner Julia Mautner against Tampa, and then staying out on the court to clinch the match myself after an intense, three-hour singles battle.

Any advice for a future Eagle Tennis Recruit: Embrace every single moment and cherish each practice as if it were your last, because the time truly flies by faster than you realize. Allow this journey to push you to grow not only as an athlete, but as an individual. More than anything, remember that the teammates standing beside you on these courts will build into lifelong friendships and those bonds are one of the most meaningful part of the entire experience.

Best Personal Accomplishment: Building a company that works with NASA and the Air Force, and the family we are growing with my husband and 2 kids, Daniela (2) and Oscar (3 weeks 😃)

Favorite Memory while at ERAU: Playing the finals at Nationals

Check out this feature on Embry-Riddle Women's Tennis alum Elise Lagerstrom!

Two years ago, Elise Lagerstrom ran the Atacama Crossing, a weeklong stage race in Chile that's part of the Four Deserts Ultramarathon Series. She won the women’s division, but figured that once was enough; in fact, she told friends, she would never do a race like it again.

Never again, however, is often an invitation to thoughts of what if. That question nibbled at the back of her mind as she was took on new adventures, including a climbing expedition targeting 19,000-and 20,000-foot summits in Ecuador. She started making a list of things she’d do differently if she were to do it over.

All of this ultimately came together in Mongolia at the Gobi March 250K, where Lagerstrom became the first woman to win a Four Deserts race. Her win is the latest in a cascade of women taking the overall prize in endurance challenges, from Tara Dower's 2024 Appalachian Trail FKT to Rachel Entrekin's 2026 Cocodona 250 victory.

Favorite Memory while at ERAU: Being there when the Men’s tennis team got the National championship in 2013

Any advice for a future Eagle Tennis Recruit:
“Leave a piece of yourself on the court: There is a distinct, heavy regret in knowing you cut a corner, let a bad attitude take over, or allowed the fear of failure to keep you from playing completely uninhibited. Play with absolute freedom and give everything you have to the game right now. When you walk off the court for the final time, make sure you can look in the mirror and know you left nothing behind.”

Our next Alumni Spotlight features a recent grad, Alessia or as we call her, “Trip!”

Hometown: Caserta, Italy

Major: Computer Engineering

Best accomplishment: Graduating Summa Cum Laude while competing in NCAA Division II tennis and helping the team reach a top 3 national ranking.

Favorite memory at ERAU: Being part of such a supportive team and competing alongside teammates who always pushed each other to be better.

Advice for a future Eagle: “Don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone. Some of the best opportunities in life come from taking on challenges you never thought you could handle.”

Our next Alum is Jamie! Jamie works at ERAU as the University Budget Director and has been very kind to support our team at as many home matches as she can make!

Hometown: Ada, Oklahoma

ERAU Major: Aviation Business Marketing

My most proud achievement in life is raising my twenty-two year old son Parker who is a mechanical engineering student at ERAU as well as a member of the Air National Guard. He also has his private pilot and instrument rating from the University.

Favorite memory: My most special memories while attending ERAU are the friendships I made with my teammates. Across Europe and the US, we connect almost daily.

Advice: “Enjoy the ride, life goes so quickly! Despite all obstacles, follow your dreams, be thoughtful, kind, and meaningful in all you choose to do.”
