Check out this feature on Embry-Riddle Women's Tennis alum Elise Lagerstrom!
Two years ago, Elise Lagerstrom ran the Atacama Crossing, a weeklong stage race in Chile that's part of the Four Deserts Ultramarathon Series. She won the womenâs division, but figured that once was enough; in fact, she told friends, she would never do a race like it again.
Never again, however, is often an invitation to thoughts of what if. That question nibbled at the back of her mind as she was took on new adventures, including a climbing expedition targeting 19,000-and 20,000-foot summits in Ecuador. She started making a list of things sheâd do differently if she were to do it over.
All of this ultimately came together in Mongolia at the Gobi March 250K, where Lagerstrom became the first woman to win a Four Deserts race. Her win is the latest in a cascade of women taking the overall prize in endurance challenges, from Tara Dower's 2024 Appalachian Trail FKT to Rachel Entrekin's 2026 Cocodona 250 victory.
