It takes teamwork to create healthy habitats, and our community is a big part of that. A huge shout out to an Eagle Scout who created 30 fish attractors as his project. MetroParks rangers and park staff sunk these structures into Possum Creekโs Fishing Pond (1) to help support life at the lowest bottom of the aquatic food chain. This means healthier fish, too.
In 2024, MetroParks began stocking native fish at Possum Creekโs ponds, including large mouth bass, bluegill, redear sunfish and minnows. Now, our conservation team is focused on enhancing habitat to support sustainable fish populations. These efforts include adding native plants, such as pond lilies, rises and pickerelweed and reducing mowing along the pondโs edges. Now that mowing has stopped along select sections, vegetation has grown which helps with erosion, improves water quality and increases biodiversity. Next step โ invasive species management to keep those pesky plants away from the pond!
