Rain made for a difficult Sunday around the league, but we were able to get one game in before the storms hit.

The Scouts picked up the win against the Aviators on Sunday and climbed to 5th place in the league standings. Keegan Hart continues to be a difference maker for the Xenia squad, picking up the win on the mound and going 2-4 with an RBI at the plate. Hart went six innings, allowing no runs on eight strikeouts. Lou Ryan finished the job with a 3-inning save and two strikeouts. Ben Thomas, Caleb Caylor and Ryan each contributed doubles. Zac Calvert and Jacob Chopiak added an RBI each to give the Scouts just enough for the win.

Kyle Heath was steady for Wilmington, going six innings with seven strikeouts and no walks. Recent addition Jared Harrington from Clark State made his Aviators debut and delivered two clean innings with three strikeouts in relief. Nick Antonides went 2-4 with an RBI in a game that had little going offensively.

Each team is back in action during the week. Aviators will play the Rangers on the turf at Centerville on Wednesday. Scouts take on the Wolves at Schoolhouse Park this Thursday.

The Springfield Angels picked up their fifth win of the season in a Thursday matchup against the Wilmington Aviators.

The Angels went ahead early with six runs in the first two innings, highlighted by a bases loaded double from Daniel Miller. That would be enough for starting pitcher Luke Driskell, who went the distance allowing three runs with three strikeouts and one walk. The Angels were led by the hot bats of of Nick Andrews and Tyler Renk, each going 3-3 on the night. Andrews added a HBP and a stolen base, while Renk drew a walk and wreaked havoc with four stolen bases.

After falling behind early, the Aviators turned to Levi O’Connor on the mound in the third inning. The lefty was able to hold the Angels to one run over the final four frames, punching out five batters. The Aviators chipped away and threatened with 10 total hits, but the Angels did well to get out of jams. Jeff Somuk was 2-2 with a double and two of the three runs scored. Brady Klein stayed hot with a 3-3 performance and an RBI.

The Angels will face the Wolves at 4:00 Sunday at Valley View High School. The Aviators match up against the Xenia Scouts 1:00 at Wayne High School.

Weeknight games kicked off Wednesday with a battle of the top two teams in the standings that lived up to the billing.

The Wolves improved to 9-0 thanks to efficient pitching and sound defense. Jake Sanders opened the game with two scoreless innings and three strikeouts. Andrew Simones took over from there with five innings to complete the shutout. He allowed just two hits and no free passes for the win. The biggest sequence of the game came in the 5th, when Todd Barhorst found the left field line for a double and Garrett Wissman followed it up with a home run to center field, his third hit of the game.

Rangers hurler Casey Lippincott competed well, allowing just two earned runs over five innings of work and striking out four. Jaret Quinn reached in each of his appearances with a single and a walk. Rob Pederson and Kyle Moyer were each 1-2. The Rangers threatened in the top of the 6th. After a leadoff single by Quinn and a strikeout, Adam Stefanelli connected for a long fly out to the deepest part of the park, just short of a 2-run homer.

The Wolves take their streak into a 4:00 Sunday matchup against the Angels, while the Rangers prepare for the 10:00 game against the Redlegs.
