Maybe itâs that generation after generation of women have been told who to be, how to act, how to look, how to speak, how to love, how to take up space, and how to make sure everyone else is comfortable with our existence.
Be confident, but donât brag.
Be sexy, but donât show too much.
Be successful, but donât make anyone feel small.
Be strong, but donât be intimidating.
Speak your mind, but donât be difficult.
Be yourself, but make sure itâs the version of yourself everyone else can accept.
Like, WHAT!? đ
So we learned to shrink our personalities, put on a mask, quiet our voices, hide our bodies, apologize for our feelings, and water ourselves down just enough to fit into a world that was never designed for us to be unapologetically, wildly, fully ourselves.
But what if we stopped?
What if you could be loud without feeling obnoxious?
Sexy without feeling ashamed?
Ambitious without feeling selfish?
Emotional without feeling weak?
Proud of yourself without feeling like youâre bragging?
Different without feeling like you need to explain yourself?
What if you didnât have to earn the right to take up space?
What if the goal was never to become the woman everyone else wanted you to be, but to finally feel safe enough to become the woman YOU want to be?
Because maybe weâre not too muchâŚMaybe weâve just spent so long being told to be less that weâve forgotten what it feels like to be MORE.
More alive. More expressive. More unapologetic. More freeâŚAnd maybe thatâs exactly what the next generation of women needs to see. Not another generation of women teaching girls how to make themselves smaller but instead, a generation of women showing them what it looks like to take up space, make some damn noise, and be whoever the hell they want to be.
You were never meant to spend your whole life trying to be a âgood womanâ by everyone elseâs definition.
You were meant to be YOU.
