Update and Recap from Live Zoom call on Friday:

My apologies on not sending a recording. I paused it because I was on early and failed to "unpause" it.

Here is the summary of the video.

Despite attempts to come to an agreement on an amount to be paid to RBGC following each match that is fair and works for the operations of both RBGC and the USPSA Club that is hosted there, A document was drafted restricting match directors to purchasing only targets, pasters, and paint without obtaining Chief Range Officer (CRO) approval.

My resignation came in response to increasing financial restrictions and inconsistent and unfair treatment towards USPSA.

At the Board Meeting that followed (10/13), it was stated that I had dissolved the River Bend Club with USPSA. That is not the case. I have had no contact with the Org in any form.
There was also a "call to action" for one of the Assistant Range Officers to "step up" to the MD role if they were so inclined.
Following the meeting, I emailed the ARO's, asking if any of them would like to take the role. Sam Knapp responded shortly after and volunteered to take the position.

Two days later - A response was received, and the next 2 days were spent in back and forth texts, stating that the match was dissolved due to Match Director Resignation, despite several Assistant Range Officers (AROs) being approved to manage matches in the MD's absence.

There is no rule or bylaw that supports the decision to eject USPSA for turnover of the MD, instead of allowing a leadership transition., nor was there a vote for it.

As a result, I will present to the Board at the November 10th meeting.
Goals:
-Oppose dissolution of USPSA for turnover of MD.
-Propose financials that work for all parties that are simple, consistent, transparent, and don't attempt to restrict MDs from running their respective matches.
-Resume Role as Match Director
-Host "The Peach" as planned and per committee agreement.

Any River Bend Member in good standing may attend.
All participants must adhere to Robert’s Rules of Order and maintain a professional demeanor and conduct themselves in a respectful and courteous manner.

The future of USPSA at River Bend remains uncertain until the board meeting.

Thank you,
Scott Hauswirth

To the shooters of the River Bend USPSA Matches,

There have not been many updates to the group since my post last week. Rather than posting another long string of words, which don't translate or resonate as well, I'm going to update everyone live, via Zoom, tomorrow (Friday) at 8pm.

Everyone is welcome to join; you don't need to register, and the video is turned off for attendees. There will be an opportunity for Q&A for anyone with specific questions. I will do my best to get them answered.

To the much appreciated shooters of River Bend USPSA,

Long before I took over as Match Director, there had been conflict between the Club President (at that time Will Owensby) and the USPSA matches that were held there. I was warned of this 3 years ago, but thought that if I focused on the match and minded my own business, it wouldn't be a concern. I was wrong.
Just before I took over, USPSA and Steel Challenge collectively paid $27,000 to the Club for maintenance and enhancements on many of the bays on Cowboy Hill. That emptied the USPSA Club account, and I started fresh with big shoes to fill left by Mr. Randy Gamble. Challenge accepted.

The Board, thinking we had a stockpile of money, changed the payment structure by which they collect fees. Previously, we paid them "$5 per every non-member that registered". Once I started, they changed it to "Everything you have" (minus a Board-approved reserve amount and Operating Expenses). This was an obvious attempt at a cash grab that would have been a welcomed conversation in the spirit of compromise, but that's not how it happened.

After that, I was forced to fight to keep our match and setup day unchanged after more than 12 years. After gathering extensive data, I presented a 17-page presentation and a petition signed by many of our members who participate in USPSA shooting. The data showed that more MEMBERS are on the bays when the stages are set up than when they aren't. The financial results and exposure to potential new members were undeniable, and we won. But did we?

Election time came and went, and a new Club President (Michael Hall) was in place of Mr. Owensby. Michael initially came out in support of our venue at the club, which I appreciated. Whether people in his ear have clouded his decisions or if I had him pegged wrong is unclear.

The Board voted to let me run The Peach earlier this year in exchange for a payment of $3k. Thanks to the efforts of many, it was a huge success. FOLLOWING the match, Mr. Hall texted me that he expected 10k-12k, or he would not be able to get the board to approve having it in 2026.
However, the Peach is on our usual weekend, as is the setup. The only difference is that the bays are closed and that is out of our usual routine. So, I needed to put it on the Match Calendar for review and deconfliction with other matches. After all, that's what all of the other large matches do. So I did that. Surprise, they changed the policy to require approval from the newly formed "Match Oversight Committee", followed by approval from the Board for any match with expected gross revenue over $5k. I was chosen to be on that committee.

At our first (and only) meeting, I was shocked that no other matches were represented. It seemed to be only about The Peach, although they said that The Peach was a priority and that IDPA was receiving a similar lease agreement. I agreed at that time to give River Bend twice what I gave them last year.

Last week, I received that agreement. I had asked to have the additional bathroom / portolet cleaning added, as well as the internet that was committed to months ago. The bathrooms and portolets were not cleaned at all at the last match due to an apparent miscommunication, and it was important to me that we react to the feedback we received. The lease sent for signature didn't include any of that, so I reminded them. The response was that they don't negotiate with venues operating at the Club and that this document wasn't a lease, despite the document title saying "Lease". Not only did IDPA never receive a lease or a proposal for one, but they were also advised that their match is on the calendar. I point this out not because I want Ed and his crew to deal with the same thing, but to illustrate the inequities in the Board's targeting and coercion clearly aimed at USPSA.

Then, today, they "USPSA Oversight Committee", as it should be called, sends out a draft to be approved by the committee and then by the Board which states that any purchase that isn't targets, pasters, or paint must be approved by the River Bend CRO. That is, approved by an individual who has never shot our match, or has direct knowledge of what is involved or needed. An individual who reports to a Board with an axe to grind. After being approved by the Board as an Assistant Range Officer for River Bend and trusted to be a good steward of club finances and facilities, can I not be trusted to run a great match and make good decisions with all stakeholders in mind?

This draft also came with a documented disciplinary procedure for non-compliance, a thinly veiled threat.

In response to the consistent targeting, bullying, coercion, failed attempt to extort, lies, deceit, and the vindictive and unjustified attacks, I cannot in good conscience allow it to continue. As a result, I will be stepping down as Match Director at River Bend and, consequently, canceling The Peach.

The River Bend Board does not truly understand (or believe) that we have as many members shooting our match as we do, and has historically used "member complaints" as a vague reason for their opposition, which is never substantiated.

I encourage any MEMBER who has an opinion, one way or the other, to let their voices be heard. You may reach the Club President, Michael Hall, at [email protected].

I cannot stress enough how much I appreciate all of you for your support and all of the volunteers who have worked to make this match one of the most highly regarded in Area 6.

Regretfully,
Scott Hauswirth

I would like to congratulate the winners of our match today. The real heroes of todays match are the Staff! 24 Stage Staff was there for at least 8 hours, making sure they ran every shooter with the same attention as the rest.
With 135 shooters today, who all appreciated being home by noon in the AM or sleeping in to shoot the PM...remember to thank the 2 dozen staff that makes that possible.

Thanks to all of you for coming out to shoot!

Scott

Hello River Bend Shooters,
As you all know, due to Young Shooter Challenge tomorrow, our match will take place on Sunday. That also means that we have to build 2 stages and finish the other 4 beginning at 2pm tomorrow.

We have 157 Shooters registered for the match. I'm sure that we can wrangle up a few out of that number to sign up to give us a hand with finishing the match setup.

Link below to sign up.

Thanks!
Scott

2025 G***K Area 6 Championship
In planning these matches as staff reset, we always make sure to recruit enough staff to work each stage efficiently and have folks on standby in case of no-shows or needing to add staff to stages that are running slowly.

Due to an unusually high number of staff having to withdraw for personal reasons in the last few weeks, we are sitting two staff members shy of the number we consider ideal. We still have enough staff to cover all of our stages, but would like to have more folks on hand in case of further unexpected issues or withdrawals.

In that vein, if you are interested in switching from shooting the match as a competitor to working as staff, please fill out a staff application and we will be in touch. The details of the staff package and application are here: https://area6uspsa.org/match/staff/ which includes reimbursement for travel and lodging. Staff will shoot the match over Wednesday and Thursday, then work Friday through Sunday, with no teardown required at the end of the match, and an estimated departure around 2pm.

If you would like to switch from shooting as a competitor, we will refund your match fee in addition to the reimbursement. If you would like to work the match with a friend, we can accommodate those requests. No NROI certification is required, as we can always use help reseting the stages, but working a major match is good experience before or after getting certified.

We’re seeking staff for the 2025 Area 6 Championship. The match is scheduled for October 1 – 5, 2025 at CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park in Talladega, AL. Like any USPSA match, we rely on the hard work and dedication of volunteers to make the Area 6 Championship a reality. Continuing the practice...

Update to the Sept. Match....

The match WILL BE ON SUNDAY SEPT. 28th.

We will set up 4 stages on our NORMAL SET UP DAY - Saturday Sept. 20. These are the bays that will not be used by Young Shooter Challenge.

We will set up the remaining two bays, as well as steel, movers, sticks, targets, signs, etc. on Saturday Sept 27th, starting at 2pm.

I have adjusted the sign up sheets to allow for 8 people on each day. We will need as many the day before the match as we do on setup day.

Registration will open THE DAY AFTER SET UP DAY, SEPT 21 at 8pm. If you sign up and show up for set up, you will receive a pre-reg code that you can use before the match opens.

Let me know if you have questions.

ANNOUNCEMENT......
For the River Bend September USPSA Match, it will take place on Sunday 9/28, rather than Saturday 9/27.

If you remember last year, Young Shooter Challenge takes place on our usual match day.

I will update everyone regarding match setup once I confirm the bays that YSC will be using.

Thanks,
Scott
