The fairways have been busy with celebration this spring as both Dawson-Boyd golf teams delivered outstanding performances during the Section 5A Tournament, continuing a tradition of excellence that has become synonymous with Blackjacks golf.
The Dawson-Boyd girls team once again proved why they are among the premier programs in Class A, capturing another section championship and earning a return trip to the state tournament. The Blackjacks built a commanding lead behind a balanced and determined team effort at Eagle Creek Golf Club in Willmar. Leading the way was Kylar Hjelmeland with an impressive opening-round 81, followed closely by Alyssa Swedzinski with an 82. Laura Schreier and Claire Stratmoen added key scores as Dawson-Boyd surged ahead of the competition with remarkable consistency across the lineup. This year’s section title adds another chapter to an already remarkable run for the program. After winning back-to-back state championships, the Blackjacks now head to state with hopes of securing a third consecutive Class A crown. The team’s depth, experience, and steady play have made them one of the most respected programs in Minnesota high school golf.
Senior Alyssa Swedzinski has been a cornerstone of the team’s success throughout the season, earning Camden Conference MVP honors while helping lead Dawson-Boyd to another conference championship. Every member of the roster has contributed to a season marked by growth, resilience, and composure under pressure.
The Dawson-Boyd boys team also turned in a tremendous performance during section competition, battling its way near the top of the leaderboard and showcasing the strength of the program on both sides of the clubhouse. The Blackjacks sat just three strokes out of first place after Day 1, led by Evan Mork, the Section Champion, who found himself tied atop the individual standings after a stellar opening round. Carson Stratmoen added another outstanding performance with a fourth-place finish. Both young men will represent Dawson-Boyd at the State Tournament. Throughout the season, the boys team have demonstrated grit, consistency, and the competitive spirit that has defined Blackjacks athletics for generations. Their strong finish at sections highlighted the continued growth of the program and the dedication shown by the players and coaching staff all season long. Together, the Dawson-Boyd golf teams have given the community plenty to celebrate this spring. Whether competing for championships, representing the school with sportsmanship, or inspiring younger golfers across the area, these student-athletes continue to make the Blackjacks community proud.
Congratulations to both teams on an outstanding season, and best wishes to the girls team as they pursue another state championship run.
