This is the time of year when lower sun and shadows make it much harder to see cyclists. On the trails locally there are many spots that oncoming cyclists are hard to see.
Flashing lights are much more visible than constant ones. Helmets are always important and can be bright also. Bright colored shirts help and are not expensive.
And remember, QCBC members get 10% off accessories at QC bike stores!

Interesting

55% of all bicyclist fatalities happen between 3 p.m. and midnight. ⚠️🚲

As daylight hours shorten this fall, visibility and awareness become even more important:

🚗 Look twice at intersections and before turning right on red.
🚗 Slow down in high-pedestrian and cycling corridors.

🚴 Wear hi-vis gear after dark.
🚴 Follow the rules of the road.

We ALL share the responsibility for getting home SAFE.

It was fantastic to see so many people, especially QCBC'ers at the plaque dedication today for Alex Marietta. To me that says a lot of good about our biking community.
I know the parks department appreciated it also.
Very impressive!
I'm proud to be part of this group.

On Thursday September 3rd there will be a dedication of the plaque honoring Alex Marietta, at 11AM. The plaque is on the south side of the Kimberly bridge over Duck Creek, facing Walgreens.
I did not
Know Alex personally but I'm sure many of you did. If you can make it to this event that would be great!

🚧Please be aware that part of the Duck Creek Trail will be closed due to sewer work. Trail users will need to navigate through the grass to bypass the construction area. The work is expected to be completed by Thursday.

📍At George Washington Blvd and Tremont Avenue, near Garfield Park.

*Construction zones are marked in orange on the image.*
