Hang Gliders launching at West Rutland

Timing a leeside thermal launch.
Wait for the downslope to ease, take the gap, run hard, and get airborne before it starts coming over the back.
Clean exit into a beautiful looking sky.

A Perfect Landing at Wallaby Ranch.

Time flies. So many things changed in the last 5 years.

Launching from Mount Tom a few short years ago.

A Turn Above Stone, A Turn Above Everything

Two scenes from one flight. It starts low over the Mt. Greylock monument, climbing out right over launch. Then it cuts to later down the course, high in the sky, with me and Andrey thermalling close together in a fast-moving climb.

A few shots from yesterday’s flight at Greylock. Conditions were great and the views didn’t disappoint.

Different kind of flight today: an FAI triangle instead of the usual downwind run.

Even with a 10,000 ft cloudbase, the pace was much slower. No big tailwind push, no easy glide down the line, just a steady puzzle of staying efficient, making the turns, and bringing it back home.

It turned into a fun challenge, and the best part: no retrieve needed.

A training tow at Paraglide New England somehow turned into a 141 km XC.

I was on my old, very tired DaVinci Tango, paired with an even more tired Woody Valley GTO Light 2. To make it more interesting, I’m also more than 10 kg light on that glider.

Pushing upwind a couple of times was not exactly fun, but we made it work.

Not a bad outcome for a “training tow.”

Taking cold roller coaster rides over frozen New Hampshire.

Ascutney South launch is often very challenging. It's a cliff launch that is slotted between tall trees.

Yesterday was a strong but very cold XC. We covered 150 km, with about 15°F at the top of climbs. The views made it worth it.

Shoutout to Bianca. She landed out early, like it happens to all of us, and then took on the retrieve without hesitation. One of the best pilots out there, still doing the unglamorous part when needed.
