Ustaadh Jameel Finch Comments on The Journey to Allah and The Hereafter:
[Station #1: The Worship of Allah]
Imaam as-S’adee [d. 1376 AH], may Allah have mercy on him, said:
Have complete certainty that a servant’s purpose is the worship of Allah, knowledge of Him, loving Him, habitually repenting to Him, and treading the path that will lead to the abode of safety and peace.
Many people have been overcome by emotion, and their desires and surrounding culture have overtaken them.
As a result, they give little attention to the journey to Allah and the Hereafter.
They have not made the journey to Allah and the Hereafter the foundation of their lives.
Instead, they have turned away from it and occupied themselves with their desires.
They do not pause to reflect on the precious time that has slipped away from them. Instead, they wander in ignorance and darkness.
They are preoccupied with satisfying the desires of their heedless souls. As a result, they neglect the remembrance of their Lord and abandon what would benefit them in their religion.
They wander aimlessly, intoxicated by passion for their obsessions.
Allah, The Most High, says:
They forgot Allah, so He caused them to forget themselves. They are the disobedient.

People of reason and insight choose what is complete over what is deficient, and what is lasting over what is fleeting.
For that reason, they shoulder the responsibilities of [Islamic] accountability and worship until these duties become beloved and familiar to them.
In this way, they become counted among the noble men and women.
So, listen to their traits (i.e. those focused on the journey to Allah and the Hereafter), and ask Allah to adorn you with being described with them…
