Thank You for participating in the Bitterroot Marksmanship Club’s first Community Turkey Shoot.

We had 51 individuals and 10 teams participate!

The high team score was from the Red Ryder Rangers with a total of 170. The Rangers hail from upper Moose Meadow. The team is composed of Les Myers, Lou Behling, Stephen Bowler and Ted Hayes. They will get to hold on and display the travelling turkey trophy until next Year! They were closely followed by the Bank on It team from Farmers Bank who had a team score of 166.

The high individual score was from Gus McBride, who competed as an individual, with a score of 48. He will be awarded a nice turkey to enjoy with his family this Thanksgiving. The top female score was Melissa Rogers with a score of 47. She competed on the Bank on it team. Great shooting Gus and Melissa!

The honorable mention and winner of the two Cornish game hens is Nancy Felix! Your perseverance was noted Nancy!

Between the registration fees and generous donations from our participants we are able to write a $400 check to the Darby Bread Box after paying for the trophy and prizes! Thank You.

Everyone is Invited!

The Bitterroot Marksmanship Club will have our First Shot Ceremony 7 October at 10:00am. We will have a short presentation about the club, demonstration by three of our youth competitors and first shots fire by a former Presidents 100 Champion; one of our very own youth shooters firing the second shot.

Come see all the progress we’ve made over the last two years, and enjoy some free food prepared by our volunteers (Hotdogs, chips and soda). We’ll have a display table, where you’ll get to see the equipment our athletes will use; tour the team room we’ve built, and get the opportunity to learn about one of the fastest growing youth sports in the country.

We’ve been hard at work for the last few months improving infrastructure, raising money, and working with the Darby School District. Parents and kids from the BMC have been working the concession stand at the Darby Rodeos and we’ve put in a lot of work into what is now commonly referred to as the “Q.” The Quonset at the Darby Rodeo Grounds is home to the BMC, and this year we have made huge improvements to the building, with the help of donors, the city of Darby and the Darby Rodeo Association. We’d like to thank the following supporters for helping us make the much-needed upgrades, to turn the Quonset, into the BMC Range:
Spray Foam Insulation and Fire Barrier Installed by Red Rock Insulation.
Heaters installed by Bitterroot Heating and Plumbing
Propane Tank installed by Energy Partners
Team Room framed and soon to be finished by Joe Hein
Electrical for our Team Room and heaters completed by DJ’s Electric
We expect to have the range complete in the next couple months and ready to go live with our youth shooting sports program after school starts in the fall. All kids who have helped raise money and/ or supported one of our outreach events will have the opportunity to shoot over the summer.
Darby School Marksmanship Program: Joe Hein and Dave Naber presented a plan to the Darby School Board to start a youth Safety & Marksmanship course at the Darby School for the 2023-2024 school year. The Darby School Board voted to adopt the program, which will either follow an already established curriculum, or we will follow closely to an NRA formatted course specifically tailored to the Darby School youth. Along with the program, we will be reaching out to Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks about offering Hunter’s Safety at the school, during the school day as part of the new program.
Thank you to all those who have supported our cause!

The Bitterroot Marksmanship Club was hard at work last weekend selling hotdogs, chips and sodas at the Darby Rodeo Association Riggin’ Rally. This is one of the ways, local area youth are helping to fund their new marksmanship program. We will be back at it for the Senior Pro Rodeo with an expanded menu... Thank you to all those who visited the booth, and enjoyed some tasty food; all of the proceeds go directly into the youth marksmanship program. We also received many donations to the program from very generous and supportive folks, who believe in our cause; we thank you for your support. Your donations to the program are helping purchase equipment needed to start training and competing this fall!

The efforts put forth by the kids and parents to raise money helps tremendously, and will help ensure our program is offered to local are youth at no cost.

Many Thanks to the Rodeo Association for your continued support, and our new home for fundraising. The building shown in the pictures will be a great asset for us to utilize at future Rodeos serving food and raising money for local area youth.
