Big beards tailing in chocolate milk. These drum can be tuff to catch in clean water let alone this Yoo-hoo lately. I tell people the fly has to fall to them inside a teacup in front of their mouths as if they would have to breath it in. Small ticks as if the fly/crab is crawling. When you think he has eaten slide the fly till you feel tension and then finish the hook set. They get a bad rap and are often considered a lesser target. But this fish is technical. Finding the fish, determining direction, and knowing that fly is in the teacup and keeping it there is harder than it seems. Gotta love seeing these broom tails waving in the air. Come see me to chase these marsh donkeys.

Black Drum are often seen as a lesser target but in our waters a redfish will move 3-5’ sometimes for a fly but a black drum will only eat inside the tea cup in front of it. All fish want a different cast, strip cadence, hook set, and fight. Listen, learn it, and enjoy all of the intricacies our waters holds.
