🏁 Bigfoot Motorsports Race Recap 🏁
This past weekend our plan was to take both cars to the HUGE Clash on the Clay at Xtreme Speedway in Danville, Alabama. Unfortunately, Mother Nature had other plans. With forecasted bad weather, the event was postponed until September 12th.
Not wanting to lose a race weekend, we loaded up and headed west to PineRidge Speedway in Guntown, Mississippi.
Heat race lineups were determined by pill draw.
🏁 Heat Race #1
Landon Duncan started 5th and finished 4th out of 7 cars.
Hunter Duncan started 6th and also worked his way to a 4th-place finish out of 7 cars.
Both cars felt a little off, but considering it had been over a year since we'd raced at Pine Ridge, we expected to do some tuning. Hunter made a gear change, while Landon's team made both a car adjustment...and a driver adjustment. 😄 (Sometimes a good pep talk is worth a few tenths!)
That put the Bigfoot Motorsports teammates side-by-side for the feature, with Landon starting 7th and Hunter 8th.
When the green flag dropped, Landon was on a mission! By the end of the first lap he had already charged into 4th place. He spent several laps in an exciting side-by-side battle with Casey Crowell, swapping the 4th position back and forth.
On lap 12, Landon drove it in just a little too hard entering the corner and made contact with Casey's driver's door. Fortunately, both drivers kept control and continued racing without bringing out a caution.
Then came the heartbreak.
On what was supposed to be the final lap, another incident brought out a caution. During the restart, Landon spun the tires, the car jumped sideways, and headed toward the infield. He did an outstanding job saving it and got back onto the racing surface without hitting anything, but the caution had already been charged to him, sending him to the rear of the field.
The field lined up for a one-lap shootout, but before the checkered flag could fly, Landon's car suffered a mechanical failure, ending his night with a 13th-place finish in the 14-car field.
Hunter battled hard all night but never quite found the setup he was looking for. He kept digging, stayed out of trouble, and brought the #3 home in 7th place—and most importantly, without a scratch on the car.
While the finishes weren't exactly what we were hoping for, we learned a lot, gathered more notes for the setup book, and both teams will come back stronger.
We'll be taking the next two weekends off, but don't worry—we'll be back!
