The last 2 years have been extremely trying for my family, and especially hard for my dad. There were days in the beginning where I (when I say I, I am really speaking for my family) didn't want to get out of bed. I went from having the most rewarding job to days that were filled with depressing, tedious meetings with building inspectors, construction companies, insurance adjusters, engineers, the bank etc...this went on for almost 1 year. The only thing that got me through those days was reading your heartfelt tributes. I always knew what we did was special, and that we had touched many lives, but I didn't realize the full extent. Then the worst news came, we could not and would not rebuild. The support that we received was nothing short of amazing. It was so hard having to deliver that news. I drafted letter after letter, wishing that I didn't have to disappoint all the generations that had been so loyal to my family and the next generation that wanted to continue the tradition of swimming lessons at Paul's pool. I ask each of you to please continue to take your children, your grandchildren and your nieces and nephews to swim class. It is one of the most important skills we can teach our young.
With love and admiration,
Maureen and family
