Black Dog Country Club wins the 2026 ECW Championship!
In the best of 3 semi final series, BDCC took Game 1 5-0 over top seeded Vendetta. Dinapoli had a 2 run single that started the scoring which was enough for the win. Mike Tuohy had 9 strikeouts in the win.
In Game 2, Vendetta would win in extra innings 3-0. Jimmy Flynn hit a 2 run single in the 7th to put them ahead. Jeff Lopes pitched 7 innings while striking out 15 for the win.
Game 3 was called short after an injury to Vendetta’s Jeff Lopes. The game was awarded to Black Dog.
The 2 seed Dragons also needed 3 games to take down the Wiffaholics. Game 1 went to the Dragons 4-1. The Wiffaholics walked off in Game 2 after Ryan Norris’s rbi single in the bottom of the 6th inning. Game 3 also saw a walk off. It was 1-0 Wiffaholics in the bottom of the 4th, when with 2 men on, Tom Gannon homered to deep right field to send the Dragons to the Championship game for the 2nd year in a row.
In the 6 inning Championship Game, Danny Haverty would get the ball for Black Dog while Gannon would toe the rubber for the Dragons. In the Top of the 2nd Gannon would get into some trouble, loading the bases on walks. Rob Donahue would enter into a rough spot in relief. After another walk to Dinapoli, Matty Griffin doubled to right field, clearing the bases and making it 4-0 BDCC. Haverty got into a small jam in the bottom half of the 3rd after allowing a walk to Gannon and a Nick Lea single. Dinapoli would enter the game with 2 men on base and promptly get 2 strikeouts and a groundout. The Dragons were able to chip into BDCC’s lead in the 5th when Gannon doubled, followed by an rbi single from Lea. In the bottom half of the 6th, the Dragons had a man on, but Dinapoli shut the door in his 4th inning of relief. Dinap threw 4 strong, scattered 2 hits, and struck out 10 to earn the championship W.
This is the 2nd title for Black Dog after winning the chip in 2024. This now makes back to back years where the 4 seed has won the title.
