Friday night hike started a littte wet and sloppy, but hiking down to Middle Falls & ice volcano was well worth it. I was fortunate to be in the right place at the right time. All our Trail Otter hikers were on one side lighting up the volcano, and I was on the dark side. Our youngest hiker remarked “It looks like a candle!”

Join us every other Friday night for our Potluck Dinner & Nighttime Hike through April. Next one - February 14th - yes, a potluck dinner for Valentine’s Day!

First Friday Night Potluck & Hike!

What a way to start 2025 - great food and a hike in the, what’s that stuff called? - oh yeah - SNOW! We modified the hike to stay out of the wind, and had a blast getting to the tunnel, then to Glen Iris to view the lit Middle Falls and returned to Trailside Lodge.

Some comments: “I can’t believe I was scared of nighttime hikes” & “Hiking with headlamps in the snow is awesome!”

Join us for the next hike on Friday January 31st @ 6pm. Come for the potluck, talk with experienced nighttime hikers, enjoy the fire and decide if you’d like to head out with us.

Drop a line if you have any questions or concerns (what to bring, how to dress, etc.). Experience the magic of winter nighttime hiking, as we all started out as “never hiked in the winter darkness”.

A Night To Remember! Friday night's potluck and hike was FANTASTIC. First, the food - it always amazes me how well we eat. Second, we decided to hike the east side of Letchworth. Bill had always wanted to do a nighttime hike on Trail 7, so after eating too much (especially the very rich cake) we drove over to Portageville Road. Just after exiting our vehicles we hear the train approaching. First time watching the night train from the top of the bridge! We dropped down to the Greenway, flashed headlamps under the railroad bridge, lit up the Upper Falls, then switchbacked up the new trail workaround to Parade Ground. Here, we decided to visit the Bat Cave and then to a view few see: Middle Falls at night from the east side. Magical! Hiking back to our cars we had the pleasure of seeing our second train crossing the river from the top of Trail 7. Great night! Join us for the next potluck on March 22nd @ 6pm.
