I’ve always implemented a no cull before 3 1/2 years old seems to be matching most studies done now. There is no proven science that you can improve the genetics of a whitetail herd unless in a high fence situation. On lands of free range, a doe is bred by the buck that happens to be the closest to her, at the time she is receptive. Yes, there are mature bucks that tend a doe for days, and they fight to breed that doe. However, the majority are not bred in this way.

The best practice I’ve found in over 30 years is to do your best to keep the ratio of bucks to does as close to 1/1 as you can. Again, unless in a high fence situation, most times the best you can do is 1 buck to 3/4 does.

So, when your in pursuit of the , many things can and will happen. Dan and I hunted this morning, both saw deer, several actually. He needed to know where a couple stands were so after eating lunch we departed to the back of the property in his Mule.

Great riding 2 seater, pretty quite. We take it easy since this Georgia heat is stupid. Yes I said it. I love the heat, except for when deer season rolls in.

I show him a stand he missed, walked to another, then back to the Mule to show him a few more. He turns the key, nothing! He checks the battery, well, there isn’t one, just the wires dangling from where it was😂. Yep, you guessed it, we walked back to the gate, from the furthest part, yep, I was half naked by time we made the truck! Did I say it was hot? Went to the auto parts, got a battery since the one we found had busted where you connect the wires. Got it fixed.

On the way down this evening, little doe raced me to the stand. As you can see, it’s a phenomenal day, we are in the woods and that’s a really good day I’d say. Mile walk uphill $0, Battery $113, all the rest, Priceless!

We really should shoot footage and rent some airtime. , # ain’t got nothing on us NE Georgia Boy’s 😂😂

Been really busy since January! Three new grandkids, 4 now, two trips to Colorado. Sturgis, now on the Club getting it ready! It looks phenomenal and this year hopefully will be our best season yet! Thanks to Tommy for all the help. Couldn’t do it without ya son!

At current prices, even this 2 year old hunted 2 weekends then taken will average $199.00 a pound. Come on Cornpop!

Another season has come and gone. I hit the woods in Georgia 0 times this year. Had to armchair it, as Covid hit me hard, pneumonia. Got a few residents that made it, and it’s always great to see other good bucks move in to take place of those taken.
