Dalton Fitness

Dalton Fitness Dalton Fitness exists because there is a gap in the modern fitness industry.

Whether you're new to fitness, frustrated with previous efforts, or want to perform at new levels, Dalton Fitness is a semi-private studio where your goals and dedication are transformed into the body and performance that you seek to achieve. That gap is one of people jumping into sports, activities, and performance, without adequate foundational strength. Lack of strength, combined with unbalance

d movement, is shown to be the cause of poor performance and injury. Taking the time to loosen up stubborn joints and shore up weaknesses is not something that most people want to face. But addressing these issues are the only way that lasting fitness and health can be enjoyed. Sign up for a Free Report "Five Fitness Myths That Can Sabotage Your Progress"

In an aging population (interesting phrase; everyone alive is aging) we see an increasing emphasis placed on balance training and preventing falls. In his Movement Podcast, Gray Cook talks about how the fear of falling is partially the fear of being unable to get up, stranded on the ground, once one...

A man ahead of his time.
I think my grandmother invented virtual exercise, as she always had his show on but never followed along.

Your muscles are protective armor.

Wear them proudly.

They shield your joints.

They support your spine.

They help prevent falls.

They give you the strength to carry your life with confidence.

Muscle isn’t just about appearance.

It’s about protection.

Every time you lift, push, pull, or squat, you’re building armor for the years ahead.

Train it.

Maintain it.

Protect your independence.

The average response for Emergency Medical Services in rural areas is 17 to 24 minutes. As such,
Dalton Gym is hosting Sandcut Outdoors to offer a Wilderness and Remote First Aid (WRFA) class,
combined with an Adult CPR/AED class, for American Red Cross certification. This class will teach
you the skills that you would need to be able to appropriately respond to a medical emergency in a
delayed care setting, if one should occur on your next adventure or in your own back yard.
This class is designed for giving care in any setting where access to EMS is delayed and is not just for
remote, third world, or alpine settings. The course will cover the fundamentals of wilderness
medicine and will include a combination of lecture and hands-on, skills-based scenarios. Topics
covered will include managing group dynamics during a medical emergency, evacuation
considerations, patient assessment, controlling bleeding and wound care, bone and joint injuries,
head/neck/spinal injuries, cold and heat emergencies, altitude illnesses, patient stabilization and
movement, cardiac and respiratory illness, allergic and metabolic emergencies and much more.
The class will begin with Adult CPR/AED on Friday, April 17, 2026, from 5pm to 9pm. All students
taking the WRFA class are also required to take this CPR class.
The WRFA class will be held on Saturday and Sunday, April 18 and 19, 2026, from 9 am to 6 pm each
day.
The cost for the course is as follows: WRFA + Adult CPR/AED - $250/person (both courses bundled
for a substantial cost savings)
No payment is due until the first day of class. Cash or postal money order only, please. (No credit
cards/personal checks/Venmo, etc. will be accepted.)
This class will be held at Dalton Gym, located at 113 N Turnpike Rd, Dalton, PA 18414.

Here is the latest example of why my profession can sometimes be embarrassing. Another 30-day program with outlandish claims.

If you're a beginner to kettlebells, here's the truth:

You will neither build muscle nor burn fat with this program. In order to generate the intensity necessary for those things to happen, you must first become proficient.

With kettlebells, and with any form of resistance training, a good amount of time needs to be spent on learning basics.

What Men's Health won't tell you is that 30 days is really just a start. If you can be diligent and practice, with kettlebells or ANY physical discipline, and invest 300 days instead of 30, you'll have established good habits and then you'll see results.

Good Health to You.

It's always good to complement your usual program with something the "same but different".

Splitting wood is a great example of complementing the kettlebell swing and the barbell deadlift. And what a way to unplug and get outside!

In addition to the valves in our hearts, we have valves in some of our veins. These veins are concentrated mostly in the lower leg, and some in the arm. The action of these respective muscles helps to pump blood back to the heart.

When we stop and slump, which feels so natural after a tough exercise set or cardio bout, these venous valves become inactive. Blood pools in the extremities, and the cardiovascular system has to work overly hard in order to get de-oxygenated blood back to the heart.

It's part of the reason that you feel like you're breathing harder, ten seconds after you've finished.

By moving around and doing some light mobility work after those tough sets, you activate these valves, which enhance blood flow back to the heart. Recovery is quicker, with less cardiovascular stress.

(See "Phlebolymphology - venous veins" article for more.)

It's refreshing when an expert admits "We just don't know".

Lately, we're seeing lots of information on practices that promote a longer life.

Pavel Tsatsouline, in a Hubermen podcast, makes the distinction between correlation and causation.

Tsatsouline states that a strong grip correlates to longevity, "...we don't know why..." But, he adds, "correlation is not causation, so we really don't know whether getting a strong grip will make us live longer, but that statistically it's worth a try."

Training grip ought to be part of a well-rounded routine, whether it's done directly, as with specific gripper handles, or incidentally, as with sn**ch exercises or rope climbing.

According to Gray Cook, 30% of high school athletes - that's athletes, not students - have movement deficiencies that place them in a high-risk category for injury.

Nearly 1 in 3 teenagers (32.7%) are presenting with pre-diabetes. In 2018, this number was 28%, and in 1999; 12%.

Keep these numbers in mind and consider the poor state of physical education. If you have time, read about what this California school was doing in 1962.

The media attention surrounding La Sierra was so intense that by 1962, a health-conscious President Kennedy made an open plea for other schools to get involved.

If you've carved out time for exercise, make the most of it. Chart a course. Each quality below is only as good as the one above it.

1) Get mobile
2) See number one
3) Get symmetrical (left to right and right to left)
4) Get stronger

All other qualities come after. Strive for a solid foundation and you'll be ready for anything!
