“At first I take up Tai Chi as a hobby. Gradually, I become addicted to it. Finally, I can no longer get rid of it. I must keep on practicing for my whole life.”

As a child, Grandmaster Huang was plagued by asthma and initially sought relief through Tai Chi Chuan (or “Tai Ji”) practice. The Tai Chi Chuan routines improved his asthma condition, and during the next 36 years, Grandmaster Huang never had another asthma problem.

We are saddened to share with you the passing of Master Joe Dunphy, 65th Generation Tien Shan Pai disciple. Master Dunphy also held the title of Chief Arbitrator for The World Kuo Shu Federation and Executive Committee member for the USKSF.

Master Dunphy was a consummate teacher and father, practitioner of the system, and touched many lives with his wisdom, grace, and kindness. A living role model that expressed the virtues of martial arts, Master Dunphy was a natural-born educator. He served the community by teaching essential skills to adults and children.

With many awards and certifications earned through years of continuous training under Grandmaster Huang, Chien Liang, Master Dunphy opened his first school in 1984. He was a dedicated teacher until his final days. Master Dunphy was inducted into the Kuo Shu Hall of Fame in 2001.

As evidenced by the multitude of students studying under him, Master Dunphy personified character, inner strength, and integrity. His legacy and impact will continue to live on with The Tien Shan Pai Association and the Federation.
