S I N G L E L E G F O O T W O R K ✨

We do footwork in nearly every Pilates session. It is the foundation of the reformer work. But how often do you challenge it one leg at a time?

Single leg footwork elevates the entire movement. By removing the support of the second leg, the body has to organize itself differently, improving coordination, deepening the connection to the lower abdominals, and challenging pelvic stability.

You will also experience increased hamstring mobility, stronger foot and ankle mechanics, and a deeper awareness of how each leg functions independently while still supporting the whole system.

Our feet work hard for us. They are our foundation. 🤍

At The Pilates Space, private sessions are the foundation of the work. ✨

Pilates isn’t just about moving your arms, your glutes, or your core. It’s a full body system where every exercise connects to the next, and truly understanding that takes guidance.

In a private session, your instructor learns your body. Your strengths, your limitations, your imbalances, and what your body needs that day.

That’s where the real progress happens.

The work becomes more precise, more personal, and far more effective. Private sessions elevate your understanding of the Pilates method and elevate the way your body moves.

Group classes are a wonderful way to move and build community, but the deepest understanding of the Pilates method begins in a private session.

Open Leg Rocker ✨

Day 9 of is Open Leg Rocker! An exercise that challenges your balance, coordination, and deep abdominal control.

The goal isn’t to rock back and forth as quickly as possible. Instead, think about maintaining the same shape in your body as you roll back through the spine and return to balance at the top.

This exercise works the deep abdominals and spinal stabilizers, while also requiring hamstring mobility to keep the legs long and lifted without collapsing through the spine.

💫Tips
• Sit tall and balance on the sits bones before rolling back
• Sliding? It can be tough to grab the ankles if your pants are slick! Slide your pants down a little bit so you can grab onto the skin above the ankle!
• Think roll through the spine (like rolling like a ball!), not fall back

It may look like fun (which it is!) but this exercise requires a lot of control to return to balance without losing your shape!

Pregnancy is a beautiful time of life when the body is constantly changing, and the right kind of movement can make all the difference. 🤍 Pilates is one of the most supportive forms of exercise during pregnancy, helping to strengthen the deep core, support posture, and keep the body feeling strong and connected as it adapts.

If you’re interested in practicing Pilates during pregnancy, we love working with expecting clients in private sessions with one of our certified instructors, where each workout can be thoughtfully tailored to your body and each stage of pregnancy.

If you’d like to try Pilates without committing to a large package of private sessions, we also offer a wonderful Pilates & Pregnancy small group class Sundays at 3 PM with our incredible instructor Julia, where you’ll still receive plenty of hands-on guidance and support in a small, welcoming environment. ✨

Day 5 • Rolling Like a Ball

Next up in is one of our favorites, Rolling Like a Ball! Not only is this exercise loads of fun, but it massages the spine while building deep abdominal control, connection, and stability. It opens up the spine so nicely for the exercises that follow in the mat order. ✨

💫Tips: keep chin tucked, and only roll to the mid back — not all the way onto your neck!
