Midline stabilization practices in the water are an enlightening experience!

You'll quickly expand your definition of core by trying movements like these with some kind of buoyant equipment in your hands.

I used the BECO BEbells today and really had a grand time with them!

Does your definition of core involve the muscles associated with respiration? πŸ«πŸ€”

Get re-acquainted with your spine AND your breath!

The pool grants us a tremendous opportunity to help us re-program our movement patterns.

The movement I'm demonstrating here offers a way to train evenly distributed spinal flexion and extension, and managing the movement of the breath is key here.

Let's be clear here: this breathing technique is useful in this context because of the intended goals.

One goal is to train evenly distributed spinal extension and another to train evenly distributed spinal flexion.

By the way, this is NOT cat-cow - can you tell how it's different?

You can get further clarification by attending my live classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11 am.

Hey everyone,
For the summer, classes will be held at Plano Aquatic Center!

I'm still trying to figure out how to position a camera there to capture demonstrations of Aquatic Viniyoga movements.

In the meantime, I'll catch up on some previous video work I've done and share those.

Stay tuned! ☺️

Breathwork Unplugged! 🫁❀️

Viniyoga practice in the pool is not your typical "pose holding" yoga.

It goes beyond that.

It's about timing, coordination, and deliberateness with partnering breath movement with spinal movement patterns.

Intrigued?

My courses about how to learn this specialized movement technique are all readily available for you in my Stan Store ⬆️ πŸ”— link in bio ☺️

IAFTC 2026...
Is in the books!

I was delighted to share tools from the Viniyoga methodology to the eager learners here at this conference.

I don't have any cool action shots from teaching πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

I just focused on the people in front of me and what they wanted to learn πŸ˜‚ ❀️

As a yoga therapist, I work hard to understand who is in front of me. Who are they, what do they do to help their community, what perspective are they coming from? And the biggest thing I look at...

(DRUM ROLL πŸ₯)

How are they with their breath? 🫁

A man from Taiwan came up to me after an evening session. He had listened to my presentation in the morning on Spinal Mobilization Magic.

There was a bit of a language barrier for him and he came up to me after my evening session to apologize. He appreciated me taking a little extra time to help him with the movements.

He said his wife signed him up for the sessions and he originally didn't want to go because he didn't like yoga.

But he said something about how I presented it was different.

I told him there are many styles and methods, and that Viniyoga offers a way to work intelligently with the breath. 🫁

I saw him during the sessions, both morning and evening, very engaged with his breath, despite the language barrier. His interest was piqued πŸ˜‰

There are so many lovely interactions I had and no pictures for them. But these conversations are in my heart and mind. ❀️

They encourage me to keep on with the work, even when no one is looking.

Until the next conference...I will do my best to share and educate online to help those of you who live far from me. Remember to check out my Stan Store for goodies! ⬆️

My love to all those who support me in sharing the treasures from this beautiful breath-honoring tradition 😘

Did you know an elegant method to help you have a more conscious relationship with your spine exists?

Main requirement: Your willingness to engage with your breath in a particular way, as prescribed by the methodology ☺️

No extraneous equipment is required!

I learned how to mobilize my spine through an extraordinary yoga tradition called Viniyoga. I affectionately call the movement methodology portion of it Spinal Mobilization Magic because it’s an anytime, anywhere, no fancy extra tools required breath-oriented process that can help magically unlock the spine’s ability to move, and to move well with underlying stability.

Today at IAFTC 2026 I provided participants with an experiential, interactive session of this elegant movement methodology.

Participants shared how they could feel productive changes in their spinal behavior, from the very foundational breath movement πŸ‘€

Working with your entire spine as an integrated structure rather than in piece parts, the way it was designed!

Imagine that πŸ˜‰

Hey everyone!
This week I'm in Palm Harbor, FL for IAFTC 2026 😁

I'll be teaching other professionals about the spinal mobilization techniques from the Viniyoga tradition.

One session will be completely land based. The other will offer targeted therapeutic techniques for lumbo-sacral stability!

Interestingly, lumbo-sacral stability is a complex event where multiple muscle families need to cooperate with each other with healthy timing and coordination.

The movement I'm demonstrating here offers some clues for how to build that coordinated event πŸ˜‰

You might be surprised by what a perspective like this has to offer - thinking about coordinated behavior rather than just hyper focusing on one body part.

Immersion in the aquatic environment provides an opportunity to deload joints and explore mobilizations that might not be as readily accessible on land.

Today I spent time investigating my shoulder movements in the water, and broke from symmetrical actions.

Gomukhasana followed by garudasana.

I feel like I found a cheat code for recovery:

Viniyoga movements in the water.

I like how water forces you to gain control of yourself and your movements. You're working harder (concentration-wise) for stability. And by practicing Viniyoga movements in the water, you also learn more readily how to create evenly distributed movement through your spine.

A personal practice does not have to be lengthy. Just consistent. Today my pool practice was around 10 minutes.

Tuesdays and Thursdays I have the joy and privilege to teach aquatic Viniyoga movement principles to my community. Afterwards, it only makes sense to intentionally take the time to address my personal needs.

As of late, I've been practicing garudasana often as compensation for working on high volume wall balls. I've noticed that this movement helps me to address imbalances in my spiral lines and arm lines. Check out Tom Myers's Anatomy Trains conceptualizations of fascial chains - the Spiral Line and Arm Lines he describes help you to see connectivity of your body in a broader way.

The more I work with my spiral lines and arm lines in this way, I notice a decrease of stress and congestion in my right wrist when it extends. My "wrist issue" isn't just a "wrist issue". It's a response in that area in my body due to imbalances elsewhere.

Be careful about assuming one body part is at fault. Don't lose sight of the forest for the trees.

And remember, your breath is your most foundational movement. ❀️
