For more than 20 years, Mirna Prado has called the T. Boone Pickens YMCA her happy place.
A YMCA member since 2003, Mirna has found so much more than a place to exercise. Over the years, the Y has been a source of strength, encouragement, friendship, and community. “Exercising has always helped me achieve an emotional, physical, and spiritual balance,” she says.
Last year, Mirna faced an incredibly difficult season while caring for her mother, who had Stage 4 breast cancer. She spent much of 2025 between her mother's bedside and the YMCA, finding comfort and support from the staff and members who became like an extended family. “This place saved me from a lot of depression and emotional pain,” Mirna shared.
Through it all, she continued showing up. From completing the Boo Crew Challenge to working with Wellness Coach Rod Hicks to build her strength on the Hex Bar - from 50 pounds to 140 pounds - Mirna has embraced her own journey of growth and perseverance.
She is especially grateful for the friendships she's built along the way, including the support of the Golden Hoopers, and for the YMCA's membership assistance during challenging financial seasons.
“The YMCA is literally my happy place,” Mirna says. “I find the members and staff to be so kind and empathetic. It truly is like an extended family.” Thank you, Mirna, for sharing your story and for being such a cherished part of the T. Boone Pickens YMCA family. We're so grateful for you! 💙💚
