What is making these holes in my tree? This has been done within the last week since all the shavings are on top of the snow but what is doing this to my tree? I initially thought a woodpecker but the holes are so low and we have a dog who’s a big fan of being outside. One of the holes is fairly deep (about 16cm) and one is kind of rectangular. The shaving are also bigger than I would think a woodpecker could make. I saw the wood on the ground and definitely blamed the dog, she loves to chew on sticks and most are buried now so she’s running out of chewable wood but no way she could do this.
