Imma choose violence this morning…

A lot of my people got mad at Deion Sanders when he tried to expose the disparities between how HBCUs are under funded, treated and under valued in the mainstream. Yall said he was exploiting HBCUs and those disparities are “family business”.

However.

This is about fairness, dollars and sense. YES, sense. There are many people outside of the bubble who were and are unaware of these disparities. The Celebration Bowl outperformed Power 5 bowls in attendance but received less MONEY via sponsorships and exposure. In most bowl situations, not only does the winner financially benefit but every school in the conference gets a cut! The money MATTERS. That’s why the SEC has brokered so many bowl berths, for example. When Bama or Georgia wins, Mississippi State gets a check!

Attendance matters. Deion kept stating that the games were sold out for a reason. Yall said he was bragging. Naw, attendance draws SPONSORS AND TV MONEY for both teams playing. The methods may not have always been favorable but I believe the intentions were pure because the disparities ARE REAL. HBCUs should be making MILLIONS. There was so much to what he was trying to do to get the wealth shared and, not all but a lot of people missed it.

Every athletic program in the SWAC should be getting a nice sized check after FAMU won the Celebration Bowl with the highest attendance on Saturday. SHOULD.
