🥇 What a weekend!

Congratulations to Kellam and Logan on an outstanding performance at NFC Brew Jitsu!

Both brought home gold in their Gi divisions, putting in some impressive work on the mats.

Logan stepped up and competed 30 lbs above his weight class in the 155 lb division, and finished both matches by submission.

Kellam also had a strong showing, winning one match by submission and the other by points.

Hard work, toughness, and a whole lot of heart. Great work guys!🥇🥋

People think chokes are about squeezing harder.

They’re not.

The best chokes are set long before the neck is exposed. You give them a problem to solve, they focus on the wrong threat, and when they realize what’s happening, the fight is already over.

Strength is useful. Timing is better. Technique wins.

That’s Jiu-Jitsu.

The bridge and roll is one of the first mount escapes every grappler should learn, and for good reason. It works.

That said, the variation shown in this video is a great alternative if you’re trying to avoid ending up inside your opponent’s closed guard. Different situations call for different solutions, and the more tools you have, the better your jiu-jitsu .

The key isn’t finding the “perfect” escape. It’s showing up consistently, drilling the fundamentals, and getting the reps in. Over time, you’ll develop the timing to know which option fits the moment.

Keep training. Keep learning. Keep improving.

Every jiu-jitsu student starts out passing guard the same way: getting stuck, getting swept, and getting frustrated. But that phase doesn’t last forever. The more you train, the more you improve.

There are no shortcuts. Progress comes from mat time, repetition, and consistent effort. Keep showing up. Keep learning.

Over time, the guard that once felt impossible to pass becomes one you navigate with confidence.

Showing up consistently changes you. Not just in jiu jitsu, but mentally too. Some days are tough, some rounds humble you, and some days you feel everything clicking. Either way, every session counts. Just keep showing up and putting the work in. 🥋

We talked with Allie and Brittany about their experience getting started with jiu-jitsu and wanted to hear their thoughts.

Both shared that they had initial nerves when they first began, but they didn’t let that stop them. Now they both enjoy training, are having fun with it, and want to keep improving.

If you’ve ever been curious about jiu-jitsu, consider giving it a try. Starting can feel intimidating, but most people find it becomes something they really enjoy once they take that first step.
