Aaron Quintana started training in combat sports at the age of 15. He started his fighting journey training and competing in boxing which he deems as his “first love”. He is actively competing in different combat sports, mainly MMA and Jiu Jitsu. He has trained and studied under some of the most respected coaches and instructors in martial arts. He started his MMA journey with coach Rob Handley an

d Pedro Sierra. He is currently training under renowned MMA coach Sayif Saud and notable Jiu Jitsu professor and competitor Marcus Antelante. Aaron has a passion for teaching and sharing his knowledge in martial arts, specially with a focus on self-defense since its one of the most important foundations in martial arts.

Most assaults don’t start with punches—they start with someone trying to control your movement.

In this video, I’m demonstrating a defense against a body lock where the attacker tries to secure control from behind or the side. With proper technique, leverage, and timing, it’s possible to reverse the position, escape, and get to a safer position on top.

Self-defense isn’t about being stronger—it’s about understanding how to use your body effectively under pressure.

Every woman should have at least a basic understanding of how to escape common grabs, holds, and control positions. Confidence comes from preparation, not luck.

En este video estoy demostrando una defensa contra un body lock (agarre al cuerpo), donde el agresor busca controlar o derribarte. Con la técnica, el apalancamiento y el tiempo adecuados, es posible revertir la posición, escapar y terminar en una posición más segura.

Who is Coach Q?

My name is Aaron Quintana, though most people know me as Coach Q.

I’m a martial arts and self-defense coach with over 15 years of experience in combat sports and martial arts. I specialize in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, wrestling, boxing, and Muay Thai, and I’m passionate about helping people learn how to blend these disciplines into a practical and effective martial arts and self-defense system.

I started my martial arts journey with boxing and wrestling before expanding my skill set into Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Since then, I’ve earned my Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, competed in MMA, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and submission grappling, and become an ISSA Certified Personal Trainer.

Today, my mission is simple: help people become stronger, more confident, and more capable. Whether your goal is self-defense, fitness, personal growth, or competition, I’m committed to helping you develop the skills, mindset, and discipline necessary to reach your full potential.

I believe martial arts is about much more than fighting. It’s about building confidence, resilience, self-discipline, and learning how to overcome challenges both on and off the mats.

It’s not easy balancing entrepreneurship, running a business, competing, and still finding time to train consistently. Life gets busy, excuses become easy, but Vardy kept showing up.

That’s the thing about Jiu-Jitsu—and martial arts in general. It’s rarely about talent alone. The people who become great are usually the ones who refuse to quit. The ones who stay resilient when things get tough. The ones who keep moving forward when nobody is watching.
