We would like to send our congratulations to HEO Life Patron and Officiating Coach, John Butcher on being honoured with an Ottawa Sports Awards Lifetime Award.

John has been an invaluable member to the officiating community within HEO. Having skated at the junior levels himself, John began transferring his experience and knowledge as an Officiating Coach, working first with officials at the University and Junior levels. John now focuses his time on the officials at the U16 and U18 AAA levels, helping them prepare their game to get to get to the junior leagues.

Recognized as an HEO Life Patron in 2015, John has dedicated countless hours to the officiating community and we cannot thank him enough for all that he does!

The Mayor’s Cup recognizes those who have shown dedication to amateur sport in a variety of contexts and Marci Morris has been a huge part of building the sport community. As executive director of the Ottawa Sports Council and in many other roles, her impact leaves an important legacy! Thank you Marci for all of your contributions to making sport better in our city and beyond.

It’s National Volunteer Week and we’re proud to celebrate sport volunteers in Ottawa with the Ottawa Sports Award Lifetime Award for longstanding dedication and impact as a Volunteer/Administrator.

The recipient in 2024 was John Lexmond, who has been a member of the Ottawa Valley Cricket Council since 1977, and President of the Ottawa Cricket Club as well as his favourite position as league statistician. It was a pleasure to recognize John’s love of the game!
