What’s missing from the game of golf today? I say respect. Respect for the game. Respect for the course. Respect for other players and respect for the golfer himself or herself.
1. For the game, learn the rules including local rules. They are the standards by which to judge yourself. Golf is a game of skill and character. Learn from mistakes don’t lose your mind over them. You’re going to get good breaks from bad shots and bad breaks from good shots.
2. For the course, follow the guidelines of the golf course staff as to how to play the course and where to and where not to drive your golf cart. Cart path only is not a punishment but a protection for the course and you when conditions are really wet. We love to play on well maintained grass so fix your divots and ball marks plus any others you see not repaired. Leave the course better than you found it.
3. For other golfers and yourself, you are not a professional so don’t be surprised when you can’t golf like one. You can improve and learn from every shot. Develop a strategy for playing the course, start at the green and work backwards on how you want to play each hole. Ideally you want the approach shot the green to be your best yardage for you. Play ready golf especially if the course is busy. If you or your group are playing slower than the group behind you let them play through if there is no one in front of you. If lose a ball drop another and move on you will find more than one to replace it. It should take you no more than 13-15 minutes to play one hole use that as your measure on your pace of play.
Have fun and enjoy your day on the course.
