In reality, drowning can be silent and happen quickly, which is why active supervision matters so much during pool days, beach trips, and summer vacations.

Something most parents do not think about before swim season is swimwear color. Bright colors like pink, yellow, orange and green are easy to spot in the water. White, grey, light blue and black are not. In a crowded pool or open water that visibility difference matters more than most people realize. A small detail that is worth keeping in mind before your swimmer jumps in this season. 💙

Worth knowing ⚠️: white and light colored swimwear can become nearly invisible underwater, making it significantly harder to spot a child quickly in an emergency.

Parents often ask us what they can do at home to help their child progress faster in lessons....

The answer is simpler than most expect! Talk positively about the water. Never use swimming as a threat or punishment. Let your child splash around in the bathtub without pressure. Normalize being in the water in low stakes environments so that by the time they get to lessons the pool does not feel like a big scary unknown. The mindset a child brings to the water matters just as much as the time they spend in it. 💙

Swim Tip: avoid saying things like “do not be scared” before a lesson. Instead try “I know you are going to do great today.” The difference in how a child hears those two phrases is bigger than you think.

May the FOURTH be with you! 😁 Fun fact from FINS: ⬇️

The Artemis II crew flew around the Moon and came home. Before the launch, before any of it, there was a pool. Water was where they learned to move through the unknown and come out the other side. At FINS, our curriculum is built around galaxies because that spirit of exploration belongs in the water too. Your little one is already part of that story. 🚀🌊
