There’s something so special about a dancer’s first day. ❤️

New ballet shoes, new friends, new steps to learn, and the beginning of what we hope will be a lifelong love of dance!

We love taking these first-day photos because this is where their journey begins. It will be so much fun to look back at these pictures at the end of the year and see just how much they’ve grown—in technique, confidence and independence.

At Nan Klinger Excellence in Dance, we believe a strong foundation starts from the very first class, taught with care, encouragement and proper technique.

On September 27, we open our season at Gervasi's Vineyard Pavilion with SYNERGY: The Art That Moves Us, a special collaborative performance.

The event brings together young dancers from Canton Ballet, Ballet Excel Ohio, and Cleveland Ballet. Featuring a mix of classical and contemporary works, the evening celebrates the creativity, talent, and shared passion across our region’s dance community.

🎥 WHY DO WE RECORD THE FIRST DAY OF DANCE?

Every year, I video our dancers during their very first classes, and then I save those videos until April.

Why?

Because dance is HARD, and progress happens little by little. Dancers don’t always realize how much stronger, more coordinated, more confident, and more technically accomplished they have become.

Then in the spring, we look back. ❤️

Seeing where they STARTED compared to where they ARE is one of the best ways for our dancers to recognize just how much they have learned and accomplished.

These first-day videos aren’t about being perfect. They’re about having a starting point.

We can’t wait to see how far these dancers will come this year! 🩰✨

Dance is hard, and progress happens so gradually that dancers often don’t realize just how far they’ve come.

Then we look back. ❤️

Stronger technique. More coordination. More confidence. More control.

The difference can be AMAZING.

That’s why these first-day videos are so important — they capture the START of their journey so our dancers can truly see everything they’ve accomplished by spring.
