We need, above all things, to slow down.

Take the time today to enjoy the day. Be thankful and look forward to what you will be blessed with. Release what you cannot control. Take a deep breath.

You don’t have to be extreme, just consistent.

The good thing about choosing to commit to a healthy lifestyle rather than a fad diet is that it’s much easier to be committed long term.

I haven’t always had an easy relationship with food. I know how to starve. I know how to binge and purge. It’s hard to fight those thoughts in your own head. I get it. I see you.

But let me tell you, there is NOTHING more empowering than knowing you could do those things, and having the will power to refrain because you know better. There is nothing more rewarding than learning your body and how to properly fuel it, and how to stay consistent and on the right track. You don’t have to be restrictive, and you don’t have to deny yourself treats! The good just needs to outweigh the bad! We follow the 80/20 rule - 80% you are staying on track and 20% you are treating yourself but still being conscious of what you are doing (not over-doing it).

Lillian sees what healthy meals look like daily. But she also sees me eat when I’m hungry. She sees me loving myself and my body. She sees me eating treats and not punishing myself for it afterwards. She asks questions and we talk honestly about the good and the bad. A huge part of our bond is cooking and eating together. I would never want to change those moments because it truly has made us close.

Food is such a hard subject for so many. Don’t be afraid to reach out. You don’t have to sit back and struggle in silence. We can learn together how to fuel and love every inch of our own beings ā™„ļø

PS - Lillian was into that chocolate cake before I could even get a picture šŸ˜‰

Let’s talk about ā„ļøHoliday šŸŖ Weight 🄧 Gain ā„ļø

November-January are the top months for weight gain. We like to use Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, and the cold weather as an excuse to over-eat and to not exercise.

You don’t need to spend long hours in a gym. You don’t need to obsess over everything you eat. You just need to be conscious of what you’re doing and how much you’re consuming. I preach this all the time - I do not believe in diets. I believe in lifestyle changes.

Here are a few of my biggest tips for the holidays!
ā–ŖļøStart out small. Don’t make a drastic change quickly because this often is overwhelming and becomes too much in a short amount of time. Change your eating habits over time! Don’t restrict. Follow the 80/20 rule. 80% of the time you’re on track and 20% of the time you can have a treat.
ā–ŖļøWatch your portions. Try to limit over eating. Instead of consuming 3 large meals a day, try eating 6 small meals.
ā–ŖļøIncorporate protein (meat or plant based) into your base meals and snacks. This will help with appetite control and energy!
ā–ŖļøGet your rest! Your body needs to heal and relax. Proper sleep is important for proper body function.
ā–ŖļøIt’s the holidays so it’s very tempting in indulge in fun drinks! Try to limit your soda and alcohol intakes. This often adds a lot of sugar and empty calories into your diet.
ā–ŖļøTake 30 minutes a day for yourself. Be active. Don’t sit around. 30 minutes is such a small portion of your day. You are worth it.

I’ve never been one for excuses, in any aspect of life. This message could not be more true.

Ditch the excuses and give SOMETHING. You get what you put in. Don’t just talk about it. Give any hit of effort you can!

Let’s talk about binge eating 😳

I’ve been a true emotional eater my entire life. It’s hard to separate emotional hunger from true hunger. It’s even harder to only answer to true hunger. I want to point a few things out between the two so when you’re questioning why you’re hungry, you can figure out which stage you are in.

Emotional Hunger:
āŒ Is urgent and sudden. You feel the need to eat right now or you get anxious.
āŒ Shows itself with an upsetting emotion. Stress or upset feelings can bring this on.
āŒ Involves mindless eating. You aren’t even paying attention to what you’re consuming. You are just eating whatever is in sight.
āŒ You never feel full.
āŒ Negative emotion after eating. You feel guilty for what you ate.

True Hunger:
ā¤ļø is gradual. You feel ready to eat based on the amount of time since your last meal. You can wait before eating.
ā¤ļø Shows itself when you’re body tells you it needs fueled.
ā¤ļø Involves mindful, thought out meals. You know what you are consuming and how it will affect you.
ā¤ļø You stop eating when you feel full.
ā¤ļø You feel fine with fueling your body and giving it what it needed.

Food isn’t a void filler. You’re never going to binge and feel happy about it later. It’s hard to find other ways to deal with stress sometimes. Trust me, I’ve been there and I KNOW. If you stay dependent on food, eventually your body will rebel and you can easily feel out of control around food.

I do not promote dieting. I promote healthy lifestyle changes. I do not promote restrictive eating. I follow a Keto lifestyle. For me, it is what my body needs and what I have found to be the most effective. Notice I said for ME. We are not all the same. Don’t believe the person who tries to sell you one specific diet or a magic pill. If there is a lifestyle you think would fit you, I 100% encourage you to give it a try. What I will NOT encourage you to do is restrict foods when you’re not ready. If you want it, have a little. Here’s the thing though - YOU need to be responsible. You need to have a few bites and tell yourself that’s enough. Don’t let it get out of control.

Want to know the fastest way to ensure a binge?
Step 1: Restrict said food.
Step 2: Tell yourself it’s bad.
Step 3: Feel shame and guilt when you do eat said food, so you become emotional and eat MORE and get angry at yourself.
STEP 4: Recommit, and go back to step 1.
Repeat indefinitely.

At the end of the day, YOU have to want the change. This health thing is funny - it all counts on YOU and how determined you are. No one else can do it for you no matter how much it’s laid in front of you.

I want you to tell yourself that you commit to:
✨ Eating clean
✨ Exercising
✨ Trying to prep some meals
✨ Drinking water (half your body weight in ounces a day)
✨ Practicing self-love
✨ Staying motivated and inspired to keep moving forward.

Try all of these. Mind over matter, baby. You got this.

I would be lying if I said I didn’t miss my baby bump. 😢 how was this 6 years ago?!

But I am beyond happy with my postpartum progress since then.

I’ve had many people message me about training sessions lately. I know taking that first step and committing to a workout program or a new nutrition plan can be overwhelming. Getting a list for clean eating when it’s not what you’re used to can be scary. Committing to letting someone see you physically struggle can be terrifying. But it’s not as frightening as what the long term outcome could be if you continue to stay stagnant.

Ready for my truth?
I could write a million motivational quotes on my posts.
I could show you thousands of before and after photos.
I could cook you hundreds of healthy meals. I could give you hundreds of resources and recipes.
But the truth is, YOU have to want it enough to work your butt off for the results.

If you took the first step and sent the message asking for help, then you took a step further than most. Don’t give up on yourself before you even get started.

WAKE UP! Prep your meals. Stop making excuses. Get some sleep. Stop being a drama queen. Don't look at someone else and put them down because their journey isn't the same as yours. Tell yourself you can do it and DO IT. I hope every woman out there can love themselves because your body is a beast. Realize what your body is capable and push it for more. You are unstoppable!
