Bonus ski! North Cascades Hwy was open on the east side (west is closed due to big washouts from the AR storms this winter). Don took me up to a new spot I had not skied near the Liberty Bell Spires. Spectacular scenery and a clod day with snow showers, 2-3 inches new on a firm base. I skied Taos and Don was on 145 Hoks - Tiaks of course!

Don's late April foray into the North Cascades. Hwy was closed until May 1st on the east side (still closed on the west side) unless you could get under the gate on weekends ....

We had a great cold storm come through on March 31st - April 1st. It droppwd a foot of snow on the Kettle range along with cool temps. On a warm and often snowless winter. this was quite a treat and the best skiing I had all winter!

Just saw this post

Late last year, I purchased a pair of Altai Skis to better access the backcountry. These skis have made it easy to get into areas that would be otherwise difficult to get to during the winter months and allow me to cover ground quicker than snowshoes.

Thanks to these skis, I've had some pretty awesome wildlife encounters including this bull moose who has dropped his antlers (see mark above eye).

As a complete newb when it comes to skiing, I found these skis quite easy to get the hang of.

If you are looking for a faster, easier way than snowshoes to explore this winter, I highly recommend checking out the Altai Hok skis.
