Sreedevi Ranjit (aka Sridevi Ranjit) started her career in dance in Bharatanatyam at the tender age of 4 under the training of Guru Chellappan and Smt. During her school years, Sreedevi has been awarded that stature of ‘Kalathilakam’ (awarded to the Best Artistic talent) and has also competed and won in various District and State level competitions, gaining her the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi
scholarship in Bharatanatyam in 1989. Sreedevi earned her Diploma and Post Diploma in Indian Classical Dance from Chidambaram Institute of South Indian Classical Dance & Music affiliated to "Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi" by Guru Dr. RLV Venugopal and Dr. RLV Beena Venugopal. She has also taken training from RLV Pradeep Kumar in Bharathanatyam. As she was completing her Graduation and Masters in Science from M.G.University, Sreedevi was a consistent competition winner in various Classical Dance categories for all 7 years (1993-2000) she was a part of that institution. She won the Inter University South Zone Youth Festival in 1999-2000 and the Mathrubhoomi Kalotsav in 1999. In the late 90s, Sreedevi perfected her learning of the Kerala dance form of Mohiniyattam from Kalamadalam Prof. Leelamma who was also the Principal of Kalamandalam school of Art during that time. The highlight of her dance career was when she won the National award for Indian Classical Dance in 1999 from the Association of Indian Universities for her rendering of Krishna Varnam in Mohiniyattam specifically choreographed by Prof. Sreedevi has started teaching dance in 2002 and has had students in India, Europe, and USA. She has also conducted and performed in various society and cultural events across Middle East, Germany, Belgium and USA. Ms Sree, as she is called lovingly by all her students, is experienced in many dance forms – Bharatanatyam, Mohiniyattam and Kuchipudi. She has also choreographed multiple folks, cinematic and Indian ballet items for her students in cultural events all over Europe and Atlanta. Since 2013, Sreedevi has been training young kids in the art form of Bharatanatyam and imparting not only the skill and motivation for being a dancer and also inculcating in them the joy of performing. Through the Laasya School of Dance, Sreedevi will focus on classes in small groups of 5-6 kids from age ranges from 5 to teens organized based on skill levels and years of learning.
