“What’s the range on that thing?” We get asked this more than anything else. Elevation decides the answer more than any spec on the radio does.

An AT-Labs RM-2 has hit 100+ miles of first-hop coverage from a well-chosen elevated position — a fraction of that at ground level. High ground isn’t always sitting there waiting for you, though: sometimes it’s an hour’s hike away, sometimes it doesn’t exist in your AO at all. A small drone carrying a node gets you the same elevation in minutes instead of hours.

AT-Labs’ SignalReach models exactly that — terrain, node placement, and UAS flight profiles — before the incident, not during it.

Nucleus V3 is here. Same platform — WiFi mesh, LoRa bridge, and an onboard TAK server in one unit — rebuilt where it counted.

Redesigned 3D printed exterior — geometry changes to improve durability.

LoRa radio now runs a full 1 watt, up from 159 mW. More transmit power, same zero-touch ATAK integration.

Recommend Meshtastic and watch out for shots fired — every mesh forum has this argument, and most of it’s the wrong question.

Meshtastic, MeshCore, and Reticulum all run LoRa mesh, and none of them is universally right. Meshtastic wins at incident scale. MeshCore is built for regional and EOC coordination. Reticulum is the wide-area, multi-transport ceiling. The RM-1 and RM-2 run all three — match the platform to the mission, not the forum consensus.

China’s drone makers have slashed prices — hard, repeatedly, long enough that GoPro, 3D Robotics, and Parrot all quit building consumer drones. That’s not competition. That’s a rigged game, played so there’s no American manufacturer left standing when the airspace over Taiwan actually matters.

Picture the opening days of a war over Taiwan. Chinese drones sweep the strait and the island’s skies, hunting American and allied troops by the thousands — and the US has no domestic manufacturer who can build fast enough, cheap enough, or at the scale needed to meet them.

That’s not a hypothetical. It’s the outcome one country’s drone makers have been engineering for years, one underpriced drone at a time — and Washington just said so out loud. On July 28, the FCC added foreign-made robots to the same Covered List that already restricts the biggest foreign drone maker on the market. Same law both times. The FCC called it a national security risk, not a pricing dispute.
