For all young golfers who call The Pine Tree State home, The Maine State Golf Association Junior Tour is the place to be. With tournaments ranging from the far reaches of Aroostook County in the north to York County in the south, there are tournaments held throughout the summer that all junior golfers can attend. So whether you’re a scratch golfer looking to hone your skills for the upcoming fall
high school season or a leisurely player looking to gain some competitive experience, look no further than the MSGA Junior Tour. For years the MSGA Junior Tour has produced some of the finest junior golfers in all of New England. As they’ve found out, playing in the Maine Junior Golf Tour is a great way for them to hone their skills to prepare for the upcoming fall high school golf season. In fact, nearly all the All-State golfers in the state have been participants in the junior program. The program stresses sportsmanship, etiquette, and friendship in a tournament environment, and focuses on the positive values that golf brings its followers. We offer a comprehensive tournament schedule and have made it easier than ever to participate by going to an online registration process. We encourage players to sign up and manage their own tournament schedules online. Players should also be aware of our cancellation policy, and parents are asked to make sure they educate themselves as to the rules surrounding the junior tour. All information about the program is located on the MSGA’s web site at www.mesga.org. The season will culminate with the Junior Championship on August 1-2 at the MSGA’s home, Val Halla Golf Course in Cumberland. After many years of being a match play event, 2011 marks the change to a two-day stroke play tournament. This year the Junior Scholarship Banquet, held at the MSGA’s Banquet Center at Val Halla, will occur after the first round of the championship on the evening of August 1. The banquet is free for tournament participants and scholarship recipients. Parents and friends can attend for a nominal fee, but must RSVP in advance. Check out the MSGA Junior Golf Tour and get the most out of your summer golfing experience.
