CMA Football Head Coach, Andy Dorrel, has tied Russ Oliver (as in Oliver Field) for the most wins in football.

Here are the records for Andy Dorrel and Russ Oliver.

Dorrel is 138-114 in his 24th year.

Oliver was 138-80-14 in 29 seasons.

Oliver was inducted into the Indiana Football Hall of Fame. He also played at CMA, graduating in 1931, and went on to play at Michigan, where he was on the same team as President Gerald Ford. He was the CMA head football coach from 1936 through 1968. He didn’t coach from 1943-46 since he in the Army during World War II. He also the head coach in basketball and baseball for more than 20 years.

The Indiana Football Coaches Association has Russ down for a higher number of wins but they haven’t deducted his time during World War II.

CMA plays Hanover Central (2-0) at home Friday.

Did you know this? Pretty great story!

55 years ago today, football legend Mike Ditka visited Culver Summer Schools & Camps, speaking with students and touring the facilities. His visit was part of a series of appearances at Culver during the summer of 1966 by notable athletes, as outlined in the Vedette here: https://cdm17320.contentdm.oclc.org/digital/collection/vedette/id/6560/rec/89
1966 wasn't Ditka's first Culver visit, either. He spoke to the student body, along with Rick Casares, in Feb., 1962 (https://cdm17320.contentdm.oclc.org/digital/collection/activities/id/45/rec/1)
