In the words of Michael Eldridge… “WGVE for life!” 💜🎙️
This one is FULL CIRCLE for me......
In the 11th grade, my classmates and I were entrusted with WGVE. We read copy every day, learned the broadcasting business, and learned very early what it meant to show up prepared.
And then there was Vernon A. Williams. ❤️
Mr. Williams was like a dad to us. He groomed us EARLY for professionalism, work ethic, excellence, and how to strive to be the best in the business. Those lessons went far beyond broadcasting, they helped shape who we became. We were meeting, greeting, interviewing, and along side celebrities in the 11th grade.
Another providence moment.
On Tuesday, August 11, I will return to WGVE 88.7 FM, but this time, I’ll be sitting in the interviewee chair with Jeffrey Smith on Wake Up GI at 9:00 AM CST, talking about my journey to the 126th National Business League Conference and taking the national business stage.
I have not been in that part of the Career Center since my senior year of high school.
And the man we affectionately called “Dad” has now passed on. ❤️
So when I walk through those doors Tuesday, I won’t be walking through them just for me.
I walk through for ALL OF US.
For the students who sat behind those microphones.
For the lessons we learned.
For the standard he set.
For the legacy he left.
I planted seeds in that station very early on.
From reading copy as a teenager… to returning as the person being interviewed.
FULL. CIRCLE. PROVIDENCE. 🙏🏾🎙️💜
This conference has really changed me in a lot of ways............of course.........I will write about it later............
