I ran Addison Oaks MTB trail yesterday. My phone was dead by the time I got there, so I wasn't able to record any data. (If a trail run occurs without Strava, does the trail run actually occur?)
I'm not even sure if runners are supposed to use the mtb trail, but I did pay a $10 entry fee, and they're hosting a trail race (7 miler & half-marathon) in September, so they obviously can't be too antagonistic towards trail runners. The two MTBers I met up with were both cool. They called out to me, and I stepped aside to give them the right-of-way.
It's a fun trail. There aren't any crazy steep climbs or descents, but it's constantly going up and down. It makes it a fast course. There are definitely rocks and roots. The texture definitely adds to the quality of the course. It's mostly one-track, but it does overlap with the park's main paved walking trail for a quick bit, It has plenty of wildlife, all of it semi-time. Ironically, the wildest animal I saw was a big ole semi-feral cat. It came blasting out of the woods, and saw me, and came to a skidding halt and took off the other way. That display of athleticism was worth the $10 charge right there. The deer and the rabbits were a lot fatter and lazier. They add a lot to the run though, because the scenery itself is pleasant, but nothing real scenic. There are plenty of trees, some well constructed foot bridges, and also some swampy lowlands. Along with the lowlands comes bugs. The horseflies are the worse. They weren't biting too bad, but there were just too many of them buzzing around me. One more reason to look forward to running the trail in the fall.
Definitely going to do the Thru The Leaves run on October 3. I just haven't decided if I'm gonna do the 1 lap or the half-marathon. http://move-itfitnessllc.com/thru-the-leaves/
