Paddle to the Moon

Paddle to the Moon Paddle to the Moon was started by Jim Bergquist who owned Crow Wing Kayaks/Wind, Water and Wheels in Crosslake until 2020 due to his love of kayaking.

All proceeds from this event will be donated to the local su***de prevention group Smiles for Jake.

WE DID IT! Over 60 brave paddlers raised money and awareness for the su***de prevention group Smiles for Jake. I don't use the term "brave" lightly. We were slammed by a storm on Crosslake on our journey back and were rescued by back up volunteers from the Whitefish Area Yacht Club. THANK YOU! I know things ran slow for the event and some participants did not like the fact that we insisted on paddling in specific groups rather than individually but I think our plan paid off. If we had not organized into groups with leaders and a specific motorized rescue boat for each, the outcome could have been catastrophic. Safety is our number one priority! I would like to give a thanks to: all participants, all volunteers, the Army Corp of Engineers, Crow Wing Kayaks, Northern Lakes Embroidery, Moonlite Bar and Restaurant, the Advisory Committee for Paddle to the Moon, the Crow Wing County Water Patrol, the various businesses that promoted us, Crow Wing Paddlers, Smiles for Jake, Northland Press, the Echo, the Brainerd Dispatch, KAXE, Lakeland PBS, KAXE and once again to Bonnie and the Whitefish Area Yacht Club. If I forgot anyone one "thank you". We could not have put on this event without you!!!

Dear friends, I wanted to reach out to you and thank you for your participation on this committee. Unfortunately, as with so many other activities, our 2020 Paddle to the Moon…..and back had to be cancelled. Even with this situation there have been many inquiries about this event, especially on Face Book. It is my hope that we will be able to have a 2021 paddle and continue our effort to raise awareness and money for Saving Hearts. I think January may be the month that we find out more about what activities are safe to resume in the new year. I will be in touch as this unfolds. I will post this to our supporters and friends on Facebook as well. We will make this happen again! Good riddance to a rough 2020 & hello to a special 2021, Jim
