Yesterday was a record-setting day for our on-duty crews.
Between 7:00 AM Thursday and 7:00 AM Friday, the Cromwell Fire Department received 25 calls for service, including 15 calls in a five-hour period between 8:00 AM and 1:00 PM. Despite the exceptionally high call volume, our day crew of 7 Firefighter/EMTs and night crew of 9 Firefighter/EMTs successfully responded to 24 of the 25 incidents, with only one call being handled exclusively by a mutual aid ambulance.
In addition to the increased emergency call volume, three off-duty members participated alongside Cromwell Police Department in the 2026 Law Enforcement Torch Run. Our on-duty crew proudly supported the event by providing an es**rt and displaying the American flag at the handoff point between Cromwell and Rocky Hill.
While this level of activity is well above average for our department, it is a testament to the professionalism, dedication, and skill of our members. Every day, our personnel answer the call to serve, and throughout this exceptionally busy period they continued to provide the high level of service our community expects and deserves. No matter which crew was on duty, we know the challenges of the day would have been met with the same commitment and professionalism.
Our members take great pride in serving the Cromwell community and remain ready to respond whenever needed.
We would also like to recognize and thank the members of Cromwell Cromwell Professional Fire Dispatchers Local 1303-475. Throughout the day, they efficiently received 911 calls, dispatched resources, coordinated communications, and summoned mutual aid partners when needed. Their professionalism and support are essential to our success and to the safety of our community.
Thank you to all of our members, dispatchers, mutual aid partners, Chiefs, Fire Police, and the residents we are honored to serve.
