Yesterday was a record-setting day for our on-duty crews.

Between 7:00 AM Thursday and 7:00 AM Friday, the Cromwell Fire Department received 25 calls for service, including 15 calls in a five-hour period between 8:00 AM and 1:00 PM. Despite the exceptionally high call volume, our day crew of 7 Firefighter/EMTs and night crew of 9 Firefighter/EMTs successfully responded to 24 of the 25 incidents, with only one call being handled exclusively by a mutual aid ambulance.

In addition to the increased emergency call volume, three off-duty members participated alongside Cromwell Police Department in the 2026 Law Enforcement Torch Run. Our on-duty crew proudly supported the event by providing an es**rt and displaying the American flag at the handoff point between Cromwell and Rocky Hill.

While this level of activity is well above average for our department, it is a testament to the professionalism, dedication, and skill of our members. Every day, our personnel answer the call to serve, and throughout this exceptionally busy period they continued to provide the high level of service our community expects and deserves. No matter which crew was on duty, we know the challenges of the day would have been met with the same commitment and professionalism.

Our members take great pride in serving the Cromwell community and remain ready to respond whenever needed.

We would also like to recognize and thank the members of Cromwell Cromwell Professional Fire Dispatchers Local 1303-475. Throughout the day, they efficiently received 911 calls, dispatched resources, coordinated communications, and summoned mutual aid partners when needed. Their professionalism and support are essential to our success and to the safety of our community.

Thank you to all of our members, dispatchers, mutual aid partners, Chiefs, Fire Police, and the residents we are honored to serve.

It was an honor to be invited by Cromwell Police Department to run with them in the 2026 Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics. Running beside our brothers in blue was truly special and we are proud to be part of the Cromwell Community with them.

On beautiful days like today we love to have the bay doors open where our members can enjoy the weather between calls, training, cleaning, cooking, exercising, and fire house chores. It’s a great opportunity to show Cromwell that we are part of the community and welcome interactions with the public. Today we had many people stop by and interact with our members, tour the fire house, drop off snacks, and talk about what we do. We want our firehouse to be an open and welcoming place for our neighbors.

We are proud to be members of the Cromwell community. If you see our doors open and our members outside, please feel free to stop in and say hello. Thank you to those who stopped by today!

This week our members have been working with our mutual aid partners at Westfield Fire Dept on tanker and drafting operations. While we have a robust hydrant system in town, planning for the worst case scenario is important. Thank you to the members of the Westfield Fire Department for your time in reviewing and demonstrating these operations with our department for contingency planing.

Our members would like to take a moment to recognize the Cromwell Fire Department Dispatch team for all the hard work they do throughout the year.

These unseen members of our department are the first link in getting our members to the scene of an emergency. They field 9-1-1 phone calls, provide pre-arrival instructions to callers, and dispatch resources as needed.

They provide life saving instructions to callers, update our members with critical information prior to arrival, and maintain a constant link during emergency operations. Without these dedicated individuals, we could not do what we do. We appreciate your hard work, and dedication
