Hello everyone, Sorry for the delay in replies to messages and phone calls. I just wanted to let everyone know besides a well needed break and still running my full-time job FAB Industries LLC (my marine welding and fabrication business), I have spent some of that time trying to develop ways to make fabricating gigs a little quicker without sacrificing quality or adding cost. As some of you know I am only one person, and every part of the gig is handmade including the tooling to make them. Just making the cone alone is a 7-step process, for perspective it takes about 1 hour per gig from start to finish. So please hang in there with me as I find ways to mitigate the time it takes to manufacture them. I am hesitant to just let anyone make parts due to the quality I and everyone has come to expect from a Cosson Gig. There are going to be parts such as the prongs, tips and barbs that are proprietary and only I will continue to make so bear with me while I work to get them made while working on making better tooling and build relationships with other fabricators to help streamline the process. For everyone that has messaged me on here, I will do my best to respond this week. I greatly appreciate everyone that has reached out and please be patient as I am going as quick as one man can go without burning myself out. Below is an updated price list for the gigs and currently only making stainless gigs (no Titanium due to current market price of materials)
And by the way.........
Jim Cosson would be over the moon to see how many of you are using his gigs and I wish he could see the overwhelming support I have received from all of you.
I can never thank all of you enough!!!!!!
Sincerely,
Jayson B.

Hey everyone, I wanted to share some bittersweet news with you all. For those who don't know me, my name is Jayson, I have gone back and forth with myself over making this post for some time now…what do I say? How to say it? When is the right time? .... There is no ideal answer to these questions. I can tell you I have been very fortunate to be considered a friend and have the opportunity to apprentice with the one and only Jim Cosson.

To those who have not heard It's with a heavy heart that I must announce to his friends and the wider flounder gigging community his passing on 9/21/2025 after a long and courageous battle.

For decades, Jim has been a pillar of the flounder gigging community. His reputation for producing custom handcrafted flounder gigs, artwork and tooling was second to none. He didn't just build gigs; he perfected them. His dedication to his craft, meticulous attention to detail and inventive nature were truly remarkable. "When holding on really matters" was more than just his motto; it seemed to be the ethos he lived by and the quality he built into every single gig.

Beyond his work, Jim was simply a charismatic, wonderful person. His warmth, wit, generosity and unmistakable goofy laugh will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He loved the community he was a part of, and he poured his heart and soul into everything he did.
He welcomed me into his shop with an open mind. Provided me an opportunity to learn but not without extreme scrutiny. He was always pulling up on the golf cart, air horn blasting, yelling out “QUALITY CONTROL”. Then proceed to examine and pick out flaws most people would never see in my work.

For me, Jim was more than a mentor and a friend, he gave me a completely different perspective on life. “Junk” as he would call it was not junk anymore but could be magically transformed into precise tooling, most of which is used to build gigs. Every piece of equipment from hydraulic presses to the intricate dies carved with a dentist tool to make “Cosson Coins” was dreamt up, hand built, or modified by Jim. He provided me with an opportunity that most of us don’t get in life. He taught me everything he could with the time he had, sharing his techniques and his passion for the craft. So, with that being said and with the family’s blessing, I'd like to announce that I am carrying on the legacy of Cosson Gigs. It's an honor to carry on his passion and keep the product he built thriving.
I know I have big shoes to fill, but I'm committed to honoring Jim by maintaining the same standard of excellence and ingenuity that you all have come to expect. You will continue to get the high-quality, custom-crafted flounder gigs you all love.

For those of you with orders placed, please spare me a little patience as I am only one person and the influx of orders have been greatly appreciated and overwhelming.

If you have any questions or would like to place an order, please feel free to send me a message.

Thank you for your continued support, and please keep Jims family in your thoughts during this difficult time.

Big Thank You to Brian Lea and JerrieDee for all your help and unwavering support and everyone else that has been nothing but supportive. All of you are the driving factor that is going to keep Jims passion and hard work alive.
