I want to give a shout out to these to amazing woman! They competed in the American Open Series 3 in Daytona this weekend. This was a National meet, one that you had to qualify for and had 1200 lifters. The most ever in a USAW sanctioned meet. A HUGE event that took a lot of courage and hard work to get to and compete in.
Dara came in 4th place in 40-44 age 71k women, just missing the medals. So close! But she went 6 for 6 hitting all her lifts. She set two personal PRs in both the sn**ch and clean and jerk. She has only been training/compete in Olympic lifting for 10 months. Such an amazing accomplishment and proving that age is just a number. Its never to late to find something you love!
Alexis competed against 69 other women in the 76k open division and came in 20th overall. She just missed a huge sn**ch PR and more importantly she proved that she can compete with the best of them in her first big time meet. Her potential at the age of 22 is super high. With another year of training she could be one of the best in the country.
I can’t express how humbling it is to have two people believe in me as a coach, stick with the programming, and see them succeed! I love coaching and they make it an absolute joy. To help them through the nerves, motivate them to do what I KNOW they are capable of and watch the smiles on their face as they walk of the stage after a make and even a close miss is amazing!!
PS...this is what you get for taking a selfie on my phone.
