FALL & WINTER: MORE REPS OR MORE DEVELOPMENT?
We get this question from everyone heading into the fall and winter. Do we play fall ball? Should we play indoor tournaments? Do their arms need rest? What is best for my son?
Before signing up for fall ball, winter tournaments, or HitTrax leagues, ask yourself: What is actually holding my player back?
Choose more competition if your player needs game experience, better decisions, pitch recognition, and confidence under pressure.
Prioritize offseason development if they need to improve strength, speed, throwing velocity, bat speed, or hitting mechanics. If the player is a high school player not pushing 80s or more in his throws or in his exit velocity, they desperately need an offseason without games and to have skill and size development.
Here’s the problem: If you don’t know where your player stands, how can you know whether another season of games or a dedicated offseason development plan is the better investment?
HitTrax can measure performance, but more swings and data don’t automatically mean improvement. Players need knowledgeable coaching to understand the numbers and what to work on next.
Games test today’s abilities. Purposeful training builds tomorrow’s.
If your goal is to earn a varsity spot or pursue college baseball, don’t just fill the calendar. Identify the gaps and build a plan to close them.
At Better Baseball Ohio, we help players understand what they need to improve and how to get there.
