Sometimes your message needs to p**s some people off.
That’s it.
There comes a point where you’ll feel really pushed to get a lot more comfortable with this. And it’s the most uncomfortable push ever.
When you try to get around p**sing people off, there are those who still find some problem with what you’re saying or doing. (And, yeah, they like to tell you or gossip about it with others)
Have you ever tried to be the most perfect person ever for other people? Where if you can do the right things, anticipate their needs, say the right things, play peacemaker, and be the most helpful human in the world you’ll avoid conflict and disapproval?
Even if they don’t choose you (or ever hire you), at least they’re not mad…right?
I had a really wonderful client years ago who came to me when she was getting sick of her own content. She wanted to be a lot more direct and also own that she’s actually a fricken’ expert in her field.
But it literally made her sick to her stomach to receive critical email responses and comments. When we met she told me she had been spending hours of her creative time responding to people who didn’t like something about her last launch.
HOURS ADDED UP TO LOST WEEKS AND MONTHS!
She wanted a way to get bolder but also receive as little friction as possible. Every time she went to write, she’d anticipate the draining correspondence.
I had to deliver the bad news I had come to accept.
There is no way to do this kind of work without p**sing some people off.
Because these are the people who are going to find a reason to be p**sed at you anyways.
You activate them. That’s their business, not yours.
