Elk season officially starts today.

There’s nothing quite like getting an elk. Not simply because of the hunt, but because of everything it represents - the work, the patience, the time spent in the mountains, and the privilege of bringing home meat that will feed a family for months to come. In every hunter’s heart, there is a deep respect for the creatures of the wild. A gratitude for the animal. A respect for the land. And an understanding that a successful hunt is never something to take for granted. This season is a special one at Lost Trail Outfitters.

Hunting season at Lost Trail is on the horizon and theres’s nothing quite like packing into the Colorado backcountry and we’re always grateful to see a successful hunt come together.

When you hunt with us, we basecamp in remote, high-mountain valleys and get there by horseback. We keep you close to prime areas, handle your camp meals, your horses and logistics so you can just focus on the hunt. If you’re looking ahead to 2027, we’d love to talk to you about our guided hunts.

Getting excited for fall in the high country. 🍂
Starting September 1, we’re officially in hunting mode at Lost Trail - crisp mornings, changing aspens, horses on the trail and some of our favorite days of the entire year ahead.

We can’t wait to watch these mountains turn gold. Hunting season, we’re ready for you.

Charlie and Knox are officially learning the ropes with a little halter training. These early days with them are so fun - getting to know their personalities, earning their trust, and watching them learn something new every day.
