A Georgios day on the water exploring the inshore wih my client Grady in search of Redfish and Seatrout. We had some quality fish exploding on our topwater lures!

Okay there is a lot of talk and debate about the new trout limit proposal so I will give my 2 cents. As someone who makes my living on our inshore fishery, conservation of the resource is my top priority. I am not against an adjustment to the trout limits within reason, cutting guide limits, reducing the total bag from 5 to 4, and a seasonal ban on harvesting trout over 20” are all reasonable options for adjustment on their own I my opinion but not all at once. The current proposal is a extreme overreaction to factors that are not clear to me. The last FWC trout workshop I attended the data showed that the populations were above the target goal. As someone who is on the water and targets trout on an almost daily basis I believe our trout fishery is strong, and if I didn’t believe me I would be championing measures for conservation. Make no mistake if this proposal passes it with hurt our local economy in the big bend from guides, to restaurants, to the lodging industry. We do not have the sandy beaches to attract tourism dollars so we rely on our fishery. You can give feedback at [email protected] or phone at 850-487-0554. You can also attend the FWC meeting May 1st at 8:30am at the Florida Public Safety Institute 85 Academy Drive, Havana FL 32333.
