🚤 Holiday Weekend Waterway Safety Reminder🌊

The Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office, in coordination with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), will have an increased presence on local waterways during the upcoming holiday weekend.

As more people head out to enjoy the Wakulla River, St. Marks River, local bays, boat ramps, sandbars, and coastal areas, we want to remind everyone to boat safely, operate responsibly, and be respectful of others on the water.

Over the past several weeks, we have received increased complaints involving unsafe vessel operation, wake issues, congestion, and conflicts between boaters and other waterway users. We have also received reports involving manatees being struck or killed in local waters.

Our goal is simple: help prevent accidents, reduce conflicts, protect wildlife, and make sure everyone gets home safely.

Please do your part this weekend:

✅ Operate at a safe speed
✅ Obey idle speed and no-wake zones
✅ Watch for swimmers, kayakers, paddleboarders, and other vessels
✅ Slow down and stay alert for manatees and other wildlife
✅ Be patient at boat ramps
✅ Make sure your vessel has required safety equipment
✅ Wear your life jacket
✅ Never operate a vessel while impaired

To report concerns or request assistance, contact the Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office at 850-745-7100. For emergencies, call 911.

From Sheriff Miller and all of us at the Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office, have a safe and happy Fourth of July!

A second manatee THIS MONTH was killed yesterday from being hit by a boat on the Wakulla River. It is the 3rd death in less than a year. All hits have been between Hwy 98 bridge and Shell Island Fish camp. That area is shallow grass flats with a narrow channel. When boaters speed across the flats the manatees cannot dive to avoid being struck. So please share this with your boating friends and bring awareness to be extremely careful, especially in areas such as that, and to obey the slow speed zones. And please, if you witness a boat strike get the boat number and report it to WCSO. Thank you.

TnT is asking your help for this 3 year old daughter of an employee, Josh Parker.

Tala Parker a 3 year old, in critical condition hanging on to life at UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville. On what was to be a fun afternoon, tragedy struck when Tala’s entire body was accidentally burned to the point she may lose her hand. Tala is the daughter of an employee of ours, Josh Parker. There has been a GOFUNDME page set up for the enormous medical bills the family will encounter plus the physical therapy for years to come. TnT employees are family to us and we need to help Tala. Please donate what you can to this 3 year old, and please add with your name that you are a TNT customer, so Josh knows of our support. Thank you.

Here is the link for her GOFUNDME page.
