‼️SWEET SWEET VICTORY‼️
The Allegheny Rugby Union held the 2023 Spring 7s Conference Tournament this past weekend at RMU in Pennsylvania. Wabash entered the day as a 2 seed, and finished as CHAMPIONS! The Little Giants defeated Frostburg State in quarters (45-0), Slippery Rock in semis (26-17), and John Carroll in the chip (19-12). Coaches and players have let us know that we have earned their respect. We came in knowing what we had to do, looked the most unified, and brought home the hardware because of it.
Wabash has acquired an automatic bid to the NATIONAL TOURNAMENT in Washington D.C. from April 27-30th. We are proud to not only represent the Allegheny Rugby Union in D.C, but also Wabash College. This is the FIRST TIME in Wabash history that our rugby squad will be competing for a national title. The Little Giants have left their mark on the growing game of rugby, but we are not done yet!
SHOUTOUTS:
- The Wabash community: family, friends, brothers, and alumni for their countless support throughout the years, especially this season!
- Our seniors: thank you for sticking it out, being leaders to our younger guys, and for making this season memorable. One last ride at nationals!
- Our Executive Board:
- MOST IMPORTANTLY... our two player/coaches, Brayden and Matthew, have put in countless hours on and off of the field to make this season possible. It has been a difficult, but enjoyable, task to make this happen, and the team is forever grateful.
- Derek Miller for sticking with the team and putting in work off the pitch (film/social media). We were happy that the fans were able to stay updated with our season and view matches on YouTube that they missed.
- Finally, but not least, our Advisor, Dr. Dan Rogers! We are thankful to have the guidance from a professor who believed in us just as much as we did. He has been a voice for the rugby program and we are happy to have him be a part of the club.
